October 1, 2016 A review of the venue at the Woman’s Club by a recent guest:
Tom and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the Ridgewood Woman’s Club. I have received wonderful comments from our guests, full of praise for the beautiful room. The venue was absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely rent again, because we cannot think of any where else we would like to be.

Ridgewood Nj, the Ridgewood Fire Department would like to remind you that CO is an odorless, colorless and potentially deadly gas that is created by incomplete combustion. All natural gas, fuel oil (home heating oil), propane fuels as well as gasoline engines (cars, lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc) are sources that produce carbon monoxide. The danger of carbon monoxide greatly increases over the winter due to doors and windows being closed and heaters/furnaces operating. It is recommended that all homes have at least one carbon monoxide detector per floor especially outside the bedrooms. If your detector activates, immediately dial 9-1-1 and exit the home. If assistance is needed in placing a carbon monoxide detector in your home, please contact our Fire Prevention Bureau at 201.444.7898. In wake of Passaic deaths, Christie signs carbon monoxide detector law

THE RECORD
In his brief life, Noel Korman of Clifton became a skateboarding legend, a man whose personal mantra of “high fives and positive vibes” touched everyone in a sport where having “raditude” counts almost as much as skill.
His death, and that of his girlfriend, Alice Park, of carbon monoxide poisoning inside a studio carved out of an old factory building in Passaic, shed light on a loophole in the state’s fire code.
State fire code requires carbon monoxide detectors be installed in hotels, apartment buildings, rooming houses, and one- and two-family homes, but the law is silent on commercial buildings like the Streets Rehearsal Studio in Passaic where Korman and Park were found dead Dec. 6.

THE RECORD
Tom Andes put his mother’s Lyndhurst house on the market in late March — and had three offers after the first open house.
Andes sees a couple of reasons for the quick action: a low supply of homes on the market and a demand for properties that are an easy commute to New York City. And, he said, “we asked the right price” — $295,000.
Andes’ experience sums up some of the major trends of the spring market — a market that continues to recover from the worst housing downturn since World War II. The number of sales is up, as a stronger economy draws more first-time buyers — a population that largely had been unwilling or unable to buy — back into the market. And inventories are tight.
But buyers are still wary about overpaying, leaving median prices unchanged for the past year.
“Buyers are very price-conscious,” said George Rosko of Better Homes and Gardens Coccia Realty in Lyndhurst, who was the listing agent on the Andes house. “If you’re overpriced, people drive by.”
The spring selling season is an important barometer of the housing market because spring is when many buyers come out, in hopes of being in their new home by the time school starts in the fall. Several North Jersey agents say the winter’s cold, snowy weather delayed the start of spring activity.

AUGUST 25, 2014 LAST UPDATED: MONDAY, AUGUST 25, 2014, 1:21 AM BY CHRIS HARRIS STAFF WRITER THE RECORD Print
RIDGEWOOD — Officials have notified the owners of six residential properties, deemed to be abandoned, that they need to make improvements to them soon or the village will take action.
Some of the properties have been on the village’s radar for more than a decade.
One of the homes, on Daniel Court, has become the residence of raccoons and other wildlife, officials said.
Councilwoman Gwenn Hauck read through the list after saying that village officials have twice notified the properties’ owners with “the reasons why they have met the abandoned property criteria.”
The village has requested these owners “work with [officials] on a rehabilitation plan,” Hauck said.
The properties on the village’s abandoned homes list include the modern town house on Daniel Court, whose door is covered with shut-off notices from Ridgewood Water; a shuttered and neglected ranch on Fairway Road; and a dingy but otherwise prim two-story home on North Monroe Street.
The properties do not appear to be occupied. Knocks on doors were not answered, and calls to the last known owners were unreturned.
The Village Council in June adopted the state’s “Abandoned Property and Rehabilitation Act” as part of Ridgewood’s own village code.
According to the state, an “abandoned” property is most often defined as “any property that has not been legally occupied for a period of six months.”
Such homes must also either be in need of rehabilitation or determined by a public officer to be a “public nuisance.”
