Ridgewood High School Senior Focus Program Targets College Application Process

Ridgewood NJ, at Monday’s Ridgewood Board of Education meeting Jeff Nyhuis, Assistant Principal of Guidance, Curriculum, and Instruction at Ridgewood High School, presented the Senior Focus program. This is the second year that the high school is running Senior Focus. The goal of this program is to provide consistent information about the college application process to all students and eliminate the need for a private counselor. The high school has a strong guidance department, and our counselors have visited over 400 colleges. Another goal of this program was to increase instructional time. Senior Focus has been built into the schedule so that students are pulled out of their free periods. Finally, Senior Focus is a way to reduce the stress that students experience.

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP — A 75-year-old man was charged with selling guns out of his home in an Ocean County senior community.

18 firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns, plus a large amount of ammunition and cash were seized from the Eton Road home of John Figlar on Friday, according to Berkeley Police.

Police said they were acting on a tip that Figlar was selling the weapons without the required permits and were considered street level sales.

Ridgewood seniors lead way for 4th straight District 6 wrestling title

Ridgewood NJ Ridgewood Wrestling earned its fourth straight team title but this championship was as close as it gets. The Maroons topped runner-up Garfield by 8 1/2 points. They won by 70 points in 2015, 32. 5 points in 2014 and 41 points in 2013…There was a wrestler from Garfield or Ridgewood in 11 out of the 14 finals and three head-to-head matchups between the district’s top two teams.

All five of Ridgewood’s champions ; Matt Binstock (145), Julian Bangash (152),Ashmaz Dugulubgov (170), Kyle Inlander (182) and Jake Hall-Goldman (220) were seniors.

Most outstanding wrestler was Ridgewood’s Kyle Inlander who won a marquee bout against Elmwood Park’s Sammy Santos to earn the honor. Inlander checked in at 29-3 and was the No. 1 seed at 182 while second-seeded Santos entered the tournament with a record of 35-2. Inlander was able to fight off Santos on an 8-7 decision to win his third straight title.

Let’s Stay Acquainted…

Thursday, May 1st

All Ridgewood resident seniors are invited to join Councilwoman Gwenn Hauck for an opportunity to meet, share thoughts, participate in an activity and enjoy a light lunch. 

The event will take place on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 12 noon in the Anne Zusy Youth Lounge in the Community Center, located at 131 N. Maple Ave. The “North Jersey English Country Dancers”, complete with live musicians, including a fiddle player, a pianist and a caller, will be here to play and get you up dancing to some English Country Dance tunes. Participation is expected. English Country Dance is a form of regency through socialization, interaction, history and entertainment. Please come join us!

There is no fee to attend, but pre-registration is required and bus transportation is available. Registration can be done in person, by mail, or by calling The Stable at 201-670-5560 or The Community Center at 201-670-5500, ext 301. Bus reservations can be made by calling 201-670-5500, ext 200, but please call by Tuesday, 4pm.
