Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital Wishes everyone a Happy Easter and Reminds Cat Lovers ; No Lilies for Kitties!

the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ , the Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital  Wishes everyone a  happy Easter and reminds cat lovers , No Lilies for Kitties! For more information on this topic and to learn about safer cut-flower alternatives, please click here: https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/…/f…/no-lilies-for-kitties/

Why are the Easter holiday and Mother’s Day two of the most dangerous holidays for cats? The answer is simple—lily poisoning. Exposure to common lilies such as Easter lilies, tiger lilies and stargazer lilies sicken and kill thousands of cats annually. What’s even more dangerous is that less than 30% of cat owners realize these common and seemingly “benign” lilies are fatal to our feline friends. That’s about to change. We want to introduce you to a new educational campaign—‘No Lilies for Kitties!’

Pet Poison Helpline, in partnership with the Small Animal Welfare Committee of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association,  have teamed up to increase awareness of lily poisoning to cat owners and remind veterinarians that we are heading into lily season. Please help us spread the word and learn why you need to “leave out the lilies”. As part of the campaign, downloadable graphics, PDFs and a videoare available for printing and sharing.

Ridgewood family offers gratitude for support

JANUARY 2, 2015

Family offers gratitude for help

The Imbruglia family

Ridgewood

To the Editor:

My family and I would like to offer our most heartfelt gratitude for the support that has been shown to us during these difficult days since our house fire on the day after Thanksgiving. Living in Ridgewood for over 20 years, we have always known our community to be extremely special and we now know just how blessed we are to be counted among you.

In the bleary-eyed days after our fire, my family was deeply touched by people dropping off gift cards, bags of bedding, clothing and necessities, hugging us, crying with us, and offering anything to help ease our losses. These were not empty gestures, the concern and the tears in their eyes helped us realize we were not alone and had the support of an entire community – whether close friends, I taught their child, or we see each other in the supermarket. My family knows now, more than ever, what an exceptional community we have and how lucky we are to be among such gracious and caring people.

We know we are incredibly blessed to have been shown such kindness and concern. Whether people cooked and delivered a meal, brought much-needed clothing, donated a gift card, treated our dog to a toy she lost, or just hugged me and cried with me on our dear friends’ porch, please know that none of us will ever forget what was done to help ease our transition through this turmoil. We will continue to pay this kindness forward and continue to support community members in need, in the ways that have bolstered us, whether it was through RHS Cares, Benjamin Franklin Home & School Association, Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital, BF staff (where I am lucky enough to work!), Ridgewood Lacrosse Association (which replaced equipment for my son so that he could play that weekend!) or through an individual gesture.

Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital Keeping Your Dog Safe

No one wants to think about the possibility of a beloved dog running out into the street, yet a study shows that more than a million dogs were struck by cars last year in the U.S. alone.

These tragic accidents happen all too often to dogs, both on-leash and off, in a matter of seconds.

Read a few suggestions to avoid this type of tragedy in our blog article “Keeping Your Dog Safe is Our #1 Priority”

Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital : Antifreeze is a dangerous poison for pets

Ridgewood NJ, As winter brings in the cold, antifreeze can leak from a car’s radiator. Antifreeze contains ethylene glycol, which is a dangerous poison for pets, affecting the brain, liver and kidneys.

It may taste delicious, even sweet, to your cats or dogs at first, but it is very toxic, and even the smallest sip can be fatal. If you suspect your pet has licked antifreeze, call your veterinarian immediately.

Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital : Don’t give up on yourself. . . or your pet!

Now is the time when enthusiasm for New Year’s Resolutions diminishes. If one of them was to get in shape, remember you are helping your pet, too! With poor weather, everyone tends to stay indoors more and get less exercise.

Take advantage of the warmer days by taking a longer walk, and stay positive – the days are already getting longer! How do you exercise with your pet?
