Ridgewood NJ, Monday night’s rare ‘wolf moon’ had promised to be one of the biggest and brightest supermoons of the year . It delivered as promised and lit up the sky across the United States following its appearance in Europe and Asia.

The New Year supermoon, also known as a ‘wolf moon,’ made particularly stunning appearances from New York to Las Vegas as the sun set on the first day of 2018.

Supermoons happen when a full moon approximately coincides with the moon’s perigee, or a point in its orbit at which it is closest to Earth.
