The Ridgewood High School (RHS) Learning Commons project will move forward this year, starting with a Board of Education (BOE) discussion next week. The project’s progression, however, is not following the path that the district and parents expected.

Project organizers believed a state facilities grant, which the district applied for last spring, would supply the last additional needed funds for the community-driven project, but that’s not happening.

Though grants have been awarded across the state, including $434,220 to Ridgewood to finance other work at the high school, the Learning Commons did not fall within the parameters of the grant requirements.

Still, the district is moving forward, and those leading the project remain hopeful that construction will begin soon so work can be finished by the start of the 2014-2015 school year.

  1. We don’t need no stinking grant money. Just raise the taxes.

  2. Have any of you actually ever stepped foot inside of what is called the “library” at RHS? Probably not. The room is basically useless it is so outdated. And instead of jumping to conclusions about your taxes going up you should remember that the money was raised privately and if we had received a grant THAT would have been your tax money.

  3. How can you start a project if you don’t have the financing? Will they just stop work when they run out?
