Paramus NJ, advancements are underway for plans aimed at alleviating the notorious Route 17 bottleneck affecting Paramus, Rochelle Park, and Maywood, with additional funding on the horizon.

This marks the most substantial progress in the last two decades toward improving the problematic stretch of highway. Widely traversed by thousands of daily motorists and crucial for tractor-trailers transporting billions of dollars in commerce annually, the area has long struggled with congestion issues.

The infusion of new funding, coupled with the realization that the bridges in the vicinity are approaching a century in age and require substantial repairs, has propelled the plan to its current stage of development.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco said, “In 2023, progress continued to move forward on the Route 17 Bottleneck Improvement Plan. Route 17 serves as a critical corridor that connects billions of dollars of interstate commerce throughout Bergen County- the Economic Engine of New Jersey.
Improving the Route 17 Bottleneck will also improve health and safety. Alleviating the Bottleneck will allow emergency response vehicles to easily move through traffic and improve air quality by reducing traffic congestion.”

  1. How many millions of dollars have been wasted trying to come up with a ‘solution’.
Its simple. Expand it to 3 lanes like the rest of the highway. problem solved.
Politically abutters won’t like it but tough shit. You bought next to a highway because it was cheap

  2. This is just more cash for the pigs at the trough. There is an existing highway that needs to be expanded on both sides. Take out a map and start using the money to acquire needed properties.

  3. Didn’t Jimmy T. crash an official vehicle on that stretch of highway a few years back? Young woman in the car with him at the time?

  4. No worries. Sopranos crew is working to fix these issues.

  5. Good luck.

  6. That’s been a problem for the past 30 years

  7. I always avoid 17 & 4 as much as I can. There are many back roads to access the plaza, home depot and the like, just to name two examples. These two highways are not fun to drive at all.

  8. Jimmy never rests…?

In photo above he’s pointing one of have his favorite hamburger joints!

  10. Anyone know the real reason they’re not acquiring the adjacent properties via eminent domain?

    1. politics

  11. Enough with the baba buey comment on every topic discussed it’s getting old just like the one other commenter who offensively always calls us rich and stupid.

    1. Alright smartypants, in your perfect world let’s assume “baba booey” and “rich and stupid” not only disappeared but were stricken from the Book of Life for good measure. Boom! Now we’re left with the vacuum, and Nature abhors a vacuum. And guess what? Instead of “baba booey” and “rich and stupid” you’ve got some yokel talking about “All y’all crazy” and ” Sup muh nutters?” Is that what you want? Are we better off somehow?

Anyway, I hate 17. Stay off 17. Gross.

    2. Well…you ARE stupid

  12. Ok , let’s come up with something different.

  13. 17 and 4 are awful esp by the malls but with all the new apts they are building, the side streets are becoming just as bad

    1. Totally agree. Even with the flyover built a number of years ago to replace the original cloverleaf ,both highways are still a mess. And why do we want to keep building in this town? I guess you just can’t fix stupid.
