River Edge NJ, Nearly two and a half years after a violent armed carjacking shook a quiet River Edge neighborhood, authorities have finally brought charges against three New York City suspects. The brutal holiday-season attack left a driver beaten and his vehicle stolen at gunpoint.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that 20-year-old Jaden Noboa of New York City, along with two individuals who were juveniles at the time of the crime, have been identified as the perpetrators behind the December 23, 2023 assault.

The Violent Grand Avenue Attack

The incident unfolded in a parking lot on Grand Avenue in River Edge. According to investigators, the three male suspects approached a parked vehicle, pulled a firearm, and physically dragged the victim out of the driver’s seat while demanding the car keys.

During the struggle, one of the suspects viciously struck the victim in the head multiple times with the handgun. The trio then jumped into the stolen vehicle and sped away from the scene.

A Massive 29-Month Joint Investigation

What followed was a meticulous, 29-month joint investigation spearheaded by:

  • The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad

  • The River Edge Police Department

Detectives painstakingly tracked leads across state lines, eventually identifying Noboa and two NYC residents—aged 16 and 17 at the time of the incident—as the primary suspects.

On March 31, prosecutors officially hit all three individuals with a slate of severe criminal charges, including:

  • First-degree carjacking

  • Second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon

  • Second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose

  • Three counts of third-degree aggravated assault

One Extradited, Two Suspects Remain Fugitives

Law enforcement secured a partial breakthrough on May 9, when the New York City Police Department (NYPD) assisted in capturing the now-former 16-year-old suspect in New York City. He was extradited to Bergen County on May 26 and is currently being held at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Facility awaiting court proceedings.

However, the remaining two suspects have successfully evaded capture. Both Jaden Noboa and the second former juvenile (now 17) remain at large and are considered fugitives.
