Fort Lee NJ, A wild police pursuit involving a luxury vehicle stolen during a Bergen County home invasion came to a dramatic, multi-car crash conclusion—and a desperate leap off the Palisades cliffs.

Two Newark juveniles are facing heavy charges after a high-stakes sequence of events spanning River Edge, Fort Lee, and the cliffs overlooking Edgewater on Sunday afternoon, May 31.

Stolen in River Edge, Spotted at the GWB

The chaos began earlier in the day when a luxury 2026 Porsche Cayenne was reported stolen during a home invasion in River Edge. Intruders breached the victim’s home to steal the vehicle’s keys directly from inside the residence.

At approximately 4:38 p.m., Fort Lee police spotted the stolen SUV near the upper-level approach to the George Washington Bridge. When officers attempted to close in, the 17-year-old driver pulled an evasive maneuver, accelerating away and triggering a pursuit through Fort Lee.

Multi-Car Intersection Crash Ends Chase

The high-speed getaway attempt unraveled quickly at the intersection of Lemoine Avenue and Tom Hunter Road. According to Bergen County law enforcement records, the Porsche:

  • Blazed through a red light at Tom Hunter Road

  • Broad-sided a Toyota Sienna

  • Crossed directly into oncoming traffic lanes

  • Smashed head-on into a Mazda CX-3

  • Collided with a Volvo before finally coming to a halt

Following the devastating pileup, the driver and his 15-year-old passenger abandoned the wrecked Porsche and fled on foot.

Desperate Leap Off the Palisades Cliffs

While Fort Lee officers quickly apprehended the 15-year-old near the intersection, the 17-year-old driver scrambled onto the grounds of the Atrium and Colony apartment complexes on Palisade Avenue.

Cornered at the rear of The Colony (1530 Palisade Ave.), the teen briefly hid near an outdoor stairwell. He then scaled a large security fence separating the complex from the sheer drop-off, leaping directly off the rocks.

The teen tumbled an unknown distance down the jagged cliff face and was initially unresponsive when officers tried to make contact from above.

High-Angle Rescue and Arrests

Law enforcement officers scaled the cliffs from properties below in Edgewater to locate the driver and administer emergency first aid. The Fort Lee Fire Department Rappel Team was dispatched to execute a high-angle rescue, successfully extracting the injured teen from the cliffside.

Both Newark teens, as well as one driver from the intersection pileup, were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The juveniles now face serious legal consequences:

  • The 17-Year-Old Driver: Charged with 2nd-degree eluding, 2nd-degree receiving stolen property, 3rd-degree hindering apprehension, 4th-degree resisting arrest by flight, and assault by auto.

  • The 15-Year-Old Passenger: Charged with receiving stolen property, unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, and resisting arrest by flight.

The investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.
