Obamanomics: There are 3 unemployed people for every job opening
Gene Sperling, a key economic adviser to President Barack Obama, appeared on the Jan. 5, 2014, edition of CNN’s “State of the Union.”
About 1.3 million Americans rang in 2014 with a loss of long-term unemployment benefits, due to Congress’ failure to renew the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program before its Dec. 28 expiration.
Gene Sperling, a top economic adviser to President Barack Obama and director of the National Economic Council, is pushing Congress to extend the benefits. The Senatepassed the measure Tuesday, but the House is not considered likely to follow suit.
To receive the benefits, the law requires that people actively look for jobs. On CNN’s State of the Union, Candy Crowley suggested that some people may be able to game the system. Sperling pushed back against that idea, emphasizing that a large majority of the unemployed are honestly trying to find jobs in a tough economy.
“Most of the people are desperately looking for jobs,” he said. “You know, our economy still has three people looking for every job (opening).”
Hey Randboy, you think you can take a minute away from your Obama bashing to post a link about the fact that they have the Christie administration dead to rights on the GWB lane closures last month?
If his team sold out the time and aggravation of hundreds of thousands of working people just to get back at the mayor of Ft Lee, you can kiss his 2016 bid goodbye.
Same really, because I hate Hillary.
Rob you live in a country were the President has the IRS investigate anyone who opposes him for ANY REASON !
The Port Authority is the most corrupt agency in America , funny how no one cares about the mismanagement of the ports for the last 50 years ,or the fact the toll is $13 to get to NYC , but some piece of crap politician gets inconvenienced and there is a big scandal ? The GWB is always a mess like the tunnels any commuter will tell you that but apparently we (all 3 million a day) dont count but some inconsequential mayor does…
I meant shame, not same.
Anyway all the major outlets, even Fox, are all over this story.
The entire city of Ft Lee was shut down. Meaning ambulances could not get to sick people…business couldn’t get their deliveries out / in…and his aides left a smoking gun email trail.
Class action and possible criminal lawsuits are coming, and Christie is lucky if he doesn’t have to resign at this point. One thing NJ people care about, both blue and red, is traffic. To deliberately shut down the busiest bridge in the world, in your own support base’s back yard, on a petty vendetta is suicide. You don’t mess with Bergen county and get away with it.
He is boned.
So that would every time Ive been stuck on the GWB or the Lincoln tunnel the last 30 years I can sure them , particularly the one time I had to walk through the Lincoln tunnel 3/4 of the way , this whole thing is an insult to every commuter that suffers everyday with over priced gross incompetence , know as the Port Authority
It was not a pile of crap politician who was inconvenienced, Jamsie; it was you, me, my relatives, your relatives, my friends, your friends, and everyone who had better things to do that day.
James: Your red herrings don’t matter. The IRS has been messing with people since its inception, at the beck and call of whomever is in charge. The PA has always been a shitshow. But you are going to say “yeah, well, some other stuff is bad too, so this is no big deal”.
You are spewing shameless apologetic claptrap. Typical Conservative.
Christie had my vote until now, and he’s going to have to do some serious housecleaning teo get it back. Greenlight this post or not, I don’t care. I know you read it.
thats been almost everyday for as long as I can remember
your missing the point the only reason your even hearing about this is because of a small time mayor had a bad day, all the other 350 days a year of inconvenience dont matter to the politicians or the Bergen Record
James.
Please read up on this issue. Incompetence I can understand, but this was a deliberate, malicious act. It looks bad for Christie, and for NJ because it reinforces every mobster stereotype the rest of the country sees in us.
You are making yourself look ridiculous. Next you are going to bring up Benghazi or something. Hey, it’s your blog.
you mean like auditing Tea Party members ?
James. Yes, you’re right: traffic on the GWB is frequently atrocious. But it is not ok for someone to piss on my back just because it’s already raining.
I heard about it last month when it actually happened. People wondered why they were closing lanes on the GWB during rush hours. There were also a couple suspicious “expansion joint repair” emergencies. When the media speculated that it was deliberate, and politically motivated, I blew it off as lefty nonsense motivated by Christie’s landslide.
I am hearing about it now because the smoking gun has been found. I feel betrayed, because I liked Christie.
Listen I agree that it was a malicious act by the Christie team but this is politics in New Jersey as usual it happens all the time … i could blog for weeks on all the nasty malicious stuff that goes on every single day that I am privy to on this blog , children harassed, employers attacked, advertisers attacked friends and family bribed ,threatened and black mailed , tickets issued , fines levied , audits it goes on and on ….
Heh, a group who’s name is an acronym for “Taxed Enough Already” draws an inordinate proportion of audits. That’s not an outrage, it’s obvious.
Though I don’t smoke it, I’m pro marijuana legalization. I know damn well though, if I put a N.O.R.M.L. bumper sticker on my car, five oh is going to give me special attention.
