October is Ridgewood Schools Walk to School Month
IT’S OCTOBER, WHICH MEANS IT’S WALK-TOBER: Join the Ridgewood School community in celebrating Walk-tober Fest!
Take some time this month to promote health, safety and the environment by walking to school – or just simply taking a walk.
Keeping motorists away from school campuses will create a safer environment for students who choose to walk or ride their bikes to school. If you must drive your child to school try to drop them off a few blocks away from the campus.
People who live two or three blocks away drive there kids to school every day it is not going to change.
Great effort. It is time to get back to having kids walk to school. This simple step alone can help to end the dependency epidemic that is plaguing kids today. Kids learn independence and we build stronger communities.
Part of the problem is that walking to school is best when many kids are doing it. Older kids naturally keep an eye out for younger neighbors and keep that 8 year old moving towards home when they stop to smell the daisies.
Ridge and Willard Schools seem to have the lowest percentage of walkers and the highest number of motor vehicles near the school at start and stop times. Why?
They are the wealthiest two school districts in the village…
I love October… drive right up and drop my kids off…
