Hackensack, NJ — Did you know that one of the most intense tactical skirmishes of the American Revolution happened right in the backyard of a local church?

This Wednesday, April 8, at 7:00 PM, history comes to life at One Bergen County Plaza. The Revolutionary War Roundtable Speaker Series invites you to an exclusive look into the Battle of the Old Paramus Reformed Church, a 1780 engagement that brought nearly 1,000 combatants to Bergen County soil.

A Convergence of Law, History, and Fine Art

This isn’t just a lecture; it’s a multi-sensory journey into New Jersey’s storied past. The evening features two distinguished speakers who bring unique perspectives to the Continental Army’s local struggles:

  • George Wright: A veteran of the New Jersey Bar and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Wright is a powerhouse of knowledge regarding Bergen County’s strategic role in the war. He will break down the tactical significance of the Church as a Continental post and the maneuvers of the March 23, 1780, raid.

  • Bill Angresano: An award-winning fine artist whose work is featured in the Boxing Hall of Fame and national museums. Angresano will unveil his brand-new painting of the battle, commissioned specifically to honor the 250th anniversary of American Independence and the 300th anniversary of the Old Paramus Reformed Church.

Why the Battle of Paramus Matters

In the spring of 1780, the “Neutral Ground” of New Jersey was anything but peaceful. The Old Paramus Reformed Church served as a vital outpost for Washington’s forces. The presentation will dive deep into the British raid that involved approximately 900 soldiers, exploring the chaos, the strategy, and the lasting impact on the local community.
