Hackensack NJ, On a dark cold night in January 2017, the Democratic Freeholder board orchestrated a surprise attack on homeowners that has so far cost us $28 million in additional taxes… and climbing.
With no warning and no public debate, the Bergen Democrats decided to quadruple the county’s recreation tax. It shows up on your tax bill as an Open Space tax, but very little of the money goes to protecting open space. It’s a slush fund that the Democrats use as they like.
The tax happy Democrats raised the recreation tax from $4 million a year to $18 million. This slush fund is used without full public disclosure. Taxpayers throughout the county are paying 4 times as much now into the slush fund than they were in 2015. Paramus taxpayers are shelling out more than $1 million; Fort Lee residents are coughing up more than $722.000 while Mahwah taxpayers are being hit for more than $600,000 a year to fund the freeholder’s slush fund.
On top of the $18 million a year recreation slush fund tax, Bergen taxpayers have to cough up another $419 million in county taxes in a half-billion-dollar budget.
If you have had enough of the Bergen Democrats’ spending, Vote Republican on November 5 – Vote column 1
What does the recreation tax do? Does it ensure that American Dream Mall gets built, ( formally undeveloped land developed for Dream Mall, or is it Nightmare Mall) or does it ensure that the woods (open space) and parks and land along the beach remain undeveloped. Or is it none of those things. Clue me in.
Apparently if we don’t like high taxes we should leave NJ according to Murphy.
But, but…the freeholders said they haven’t raised county taxes in their mailer!!
How about reducing the open space tax to zero.
.
Well…
At least the Freeholders are for NJ being a sanctuary state.
.
so there’s that…

Did they raise the millionaire business owner who rents the house for well below market value or are we still giving out freebies to her while we maintain with our tax dollars and she uses the parking lot and all 11 acres if she chooses and just collects and collects $$$ morning noon and NIGHT
Council and mayor zucchini should look into raiseing that rent!
That God awful business in that park. Never saw rats and snakes before that cooking, disaster of a garden and all that gross mulch laying around the parking lot all year business came
Is that house inspected by the health department? Cooking, gardening, dirt in and out of the house, parties day and night. Is it clean? Sanitary?
