Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Planning Board and Village Council members are set to approve changes to current land use ordinances that would permit construction of a 120-bed, multi-story assisted living facility on the east side of North Maple Ave., between Franklin Ave. and Marshall St. The property is currently the site of multiple medical/professional office buildings, all of which would be demolished to facilitate construction of the planned facility.

Mahwah NJ, The Mahwah Republican Club recognized three recipients of a scholarship offered by the Club at a recent meeting. The students are graduates of Mahwah High School. (L. to R.) Emmanuel Greenberg, who will attend the University of Alabama, was awarded $500; Mahwah Republican Club President Frank Pallotta; Robert Lockwood, a Club trustee who created the scholarship program; Emily Hauck, who will attend Villanova University, was awarded $1,000, and Audrey Monks who received $250 and will attend the College of the Holy Cross. In addition, a generous supporter of the scholarship program has arranged for Emily and her family to have a private tour of the United States Military Academy at West Point. The students submitted 1,000-word essays addressing the theme “President Donald Trump has had, at times, a cordial relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and has stated he wishes to meet with Xi Jinping, the president of China. What are the advantages and disadvantages of maintaining open lines of communication with nations throughout the world, irrespective of their reputations on the world stage or with the United States?” Each year the Club hosts a fundraising dinner with the proceeds being used to support the scholarships. The Club is a group of township residents who share a mutual love of America and a strong belief in the founding principles of our nation.
