NJ presidential primary date moves back to June

Even if New Jersey residents have a chance to vote for Gov. Chris Christie in a presidential primary next year, it won’t be until June.

That’s because Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno — who is acting governor while Christie is out of state — signed a law Monday that moves the New Jersey presidential primary back to its traditional month, to be held with the other political primaries for local and state offices.

Going back to a single primary is estimated to save New Jersey $12 million by avoiding the costs of hiring poll workers and counting ballots for another election.

New Jersey had moved the 2008 primary to Feb. 26, putting it in a “Super Tuesday” with other earlier primary states, in an effort to give the Garden State more clout during the presidential election.
When even more states joined in, New Jersey moved the date up again, to Feb. 5.
Guadagno said Monday that the change had been a failed experiment. “It didn’t have the impact we thought it would have,” she said, since New Jersey gained no extra political clout or appearances by political candidates.  (Method, Gannett)

Special Guests: Herman Cain

This is a rush transcript from “On the Record,” September 26, 2011. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, FOX NEWS HOST: “The Rodney Dangerfield of Republican politics,” not getting any respect from Republican Party establishment? Well, that’s what Mr. Herman Cain has called himself. But his view must have changed this view and a lot of other people when the Florida straw poll voters showed Mr. Herman Cain respect, big-time respect! In the straw poll in Florida over the weekend, Mr. Herman Cain clobbered the GOP front-runners, Governor Rick Perry and former governor Mitt Romney. It wasn’t even close!

Mr. Cain is here now. Good evening, sir.

HERMAN CAIN, REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Hello, Greta. Thank you. Happy to be with you.

VAN SUSTEREN: It’s always more fun to win, isn’t it?

CAIN: It’s a lot more fun to win, especially when the people are sending two distinct messages from this Florida straw poll. Number one, the voice of the people is stronger than the voice of the media. You know that the mainstream media has been trying to make the Republican nomination into a two-person race, or if not that, like last August, they want to basically turn it into the flavor of the week.

The second message is message is more powerful than money. My opponents, they spent a considerable amount of money trying to influence the outcome of this straw poll. I rented a bus, traveled around the state, talked to people, held rallies and shared my common sense, simple message about what we need to do to fix things, especially the economy, and the whole 9-9-9 solution is resonating with people.

>Rep. Ron Paul: The country is ripe for revolution

>Rep. Ron Paul: The country is ripe for revolution
By: CNN Editorial Producer Karrah Kaplan

(CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul rallied a sold- out crowd of more than 1800 of his most ardent under-thirty-year-old supporters in New York City Monday night.

Tickets to the event cost $20-25. It was originally scheduled to take place at the famed Webster Hall’s Marlin Room, but, the event had to be moved to a room twice as large at the last minute due to an overwhelming response. The final setting was in the Grand Ballroom, which has hosted celebrities to the scale of Mick Jagger and Madonna.

“We are seeing a level of enthusiasm for Ron Paul that can be compared with President Obama in 2008”, said Eric Brakey, Media Coordinator for NYC Liberty HQ, the grassroots organization hosting the rally for the candidate. “Congressman Paul’s youth support is different now than it was during his last presidential campaign. It’s more organized and it’s picking up steam and continues to grow”.

>You understood me correctly, if you thought I was suggesting the election may be stolen.
Ron DuBois

Lately, I have read many complaints by Patriots voicing their frustration with our Government. They have taken just about every legal and Constitutional step to catch the attention of their legislators and their President, that only resulted in being lied to, ignored, stalled, and condescended to.  The debt ceiling was raised, in spite of the pressure of the majority of the people. Boehner and the RINOs caved in  and got 353 million in spending cuts that was supposed to be around 3 trillion, and the only honest Representatives were the 66 who were mostly newly-elected Tea Party Conservatives. The promised jobs are not forthcoming, the debt continues to grow, along with the spending, and American Industry is fettered by additional chains of regulation, created unconstitutionally by bureaucrats, with no input or control by our elected Representatives.  In fairness, this is the culmination of decades of abuse and usurpation of power by all parties, driven by self-interest, greed, and catering to the lobbyists of special interests.

I am writing today, not to re-hash the repetitious daily blathering that we tend to tune out, but to tell you all that the time has come for action. To continue what we have been doing can no longer be effective, because we are running out of time. It is all well and good to continue to seek control of the Senate and the White House in 2012, and we should not stop, but there are a couple of things that worry me. One is that, between now and the elections, President Obama and his Administration have the ability to do so much further harm to the Country, that it will be too late to ever reverse it. Even now, if we take on no more debt whatsoever, we may never recover. While we were supposed to have stopped borrowing and taxing, the Administration is seeking 447 billion additional dollars through a Jobs Bill that will only waste the money on creating more Government jobs, more jobs for their Union cronies, and for projects like Solyndra and Lightsquared. My second worry is that the Obama election machine is reviving the renamed ACORN groups, with the same employer IDs, addresses, and Boards of Directors – just the new names. Already, they have had taxpayer funds illegally given to them by HUD, and are up for 6 billion more in funding – in violation of laws passed by Congress. There is no doubt that these funds are meant to give these groups the means to provide votes for Obama in the 2012 election. As was seen in 2008, when 14 States indicted ACORN members and officers for voter fraud, I guarantee they will illegally be there, fully funded, and getting every illegal alien and dead person to vote for Obama, in 2012. In other words, you understood me correctly, if you thought I was suggesting the election may be stolen.

>Doctors reject AMA’s support for ObamaCare

>Doctors reject AMA’s support for ObamaCare

Doctor And AMA Split Over Contentious Issue Of ObamaCare

For more than 160 years, the American Medical Association has served as the self-appointed chief lobbying group for doctors. But the AMA’s lofty status has been under threat over the last several years — and is under attack today. In fact, the AMA now only counts about 17% of doctors as members.

According to a new survey, the majority of doctors do not believe that the AMA represents their views and interests. Much of that dissatisfaction stems from the organization’s support for President Obama’s contentious health care reform package.

That shouldn’t be surprising. The AMA declares that its core mission is to “help doctors help patients.” But ObamaCare undermines that pursuit by making life harder for physicians and driving down the quality of care available to patients.

The survey — conducted by physician recruitment firm Jackson & Coker — is a brutal indictment of both the AMA and ObamaCare. Just 13% of doctors agree with their trade association’s support of the health reform law.

>Veterans will dedicate new World War I plaque in Ridgewood

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2011
THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

American Legion Post 53’s proposal for a Veterans Day rededication of Graydon Park was unanimously approved at the Village Council meeting on Wednesday following some changes to the original plans

Plans for the project began with the rediscovery of plaques at Graydon Park in remembrance of 14 Ridgewood casualties in World War I. Legionnaire Chris Stout has since spearheaded an effort to collect the original plaques – some of which are still visible, while others have been located feet beneath the ground – and create a new plaque with the names listed, to be installed at the Graydon Pool Badge Desk, facing the entrance patio.

The original plaques each accompanied a white ash tree, part of a 1931 Armistice Day commemoration that also marked the official dedication of Graydon Park. Only four of the trees remain.

Grant may fund new ADA ramp at Graydon Pool

THE RIDGEWOOD NEWS

The Village Council has approved a $60,000 county grant application that, if received, would help pay for the costs of a ramp into Graydon Pool’s waters on the northeast corner of the pool.

The ramp, which would be compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and could cost between $85,000 and $100,000, has been on the agenda for Councilman Paul Aronsohn, chair of the Community Access Network, through the course of this year. The rest of the council has largely jumped on board in support of improving accessibility into the pool.

“I think we’re heading in the right direction,” Aronsohn said at a Sept. 7 council meeting, when members decided to endorse the application. The endorsement was approved last week.

There were still questions about improving access into Graydon Park’s grounds, where access ramps into the park are too steep for people in wheelchairs to use on their own. Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh said she feared the village was “putting the cart before the horse” by focusing its grant application on the access into the water rather than into the park.

>Greenwich CT has a hospital

>Greenwich CT has a hospital

Greenwich CT has a hospital set right in a residential area of town. Houses on all 4 sides of the building. Pull it up on Google Maps – 5 Perryridge Road, Greenwich CT 06830.

From the Greenwich Hospital website: Greenwich Hospital is a 174-bed regional hospital, serving Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York. It is a major academic affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine and a member of the Yale New Haven Health System.

Since opening in 1903, Greenwich Hospital has evolved into a progressive medical center and teaching institution with an internal medicine residency.

We represent all medical specialties and offer a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic and wellness programs. High quality care, coupled with Greenwich Hospital’s convenient location, are reasons many patients choose to be treated here.

As for additions, Greenwich Hospital  just recently completed a 150,000 sq ft expansion.

However according to US News and World Report (https://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals) Greenwich Hospital is substantially smaller and less busy than Valley Hospital. Perhaps that is why it fits in so well. If Valley were to reduce to Greenwich’s size by letting Pascack reopen and scaling back their size, I’d be delighted to support reconstruction to switch to all one-patient rooms.

Valley Hospital
446 beds.
30,878 admissions latest year
8,276 annual inpatient surgeries9,629 outpatient surgeries.
72,085 emergency room visits.

Greenwich Hospital
174 beds.
11,082 admissions latest year.
2,251 inpatient surgeries
7,141 outpatient surgeries.
43,285 emergency room visits.

Question:
Would you call Greenwich a “city” or “town”?
I’d call it one of the most beautiful, exclusive and respected towns in the whole country. Guess the whole idea of Hospitals and exclusive towns being mutually exclusive is bunk.

NJ senate passes jobs legislation, including tax cuts, exemptions

A package of tax cuts, credits and exemptions designed to encourage job growth in New Jersey were passed by the state Senate Monday.

The 13 bills would cost the state treasury more than $100 million in tax revenue a year, if they become law.
Another bill in the package could accelerate the use of up to $200 million in tax credits already on the books for developments near urban transit hubs.

Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester, whose caucus has made job growth its election-season focus, called the bills a good start. The bills include measures, such as tax credits for investments in technology startups, that Gov. Chris Christie vetoed last winter.

“We have a lot of work to do. The economy can’t wait any longer,” Sweeney said. “It was wrong when he vetoed the first package of bills. The economy didn’t get better since then. A lot of these are tax credits or incentives. If we create jobs from this and don’t collect as much revenue but we’re putting people to work, that’s a win.”  (Symons, Gannett)

Legislature passes charter school bill, but advocates and critics want more changes

One change to New Jersey’s charter school law passed the legislature yesterday, while talk mounts that a broader rewrite of the state’s 15-year-old statute governing the semi-autonomous schools may be in the offing.

The state Senate passed a bill that would allow certain parochial and private schools to convert to charters. Few think that the proposal will lead to many such conversions, but may send a lifeline to at least a few closing Catholic schools.

The measure, which passed 25-13, is the only one of a half-dozen proposed reforms to New Jersey’s charter school law that has now passed both the Senate and the Assembly. It goes next to Gov. Chris Christie for his expected signature.

But while other charter proposals have languished, leading Democratic legislators said there is momentum gaining for a more comprehensive overhaul of the 1996 charter law that could loosen some restrictions and add others.  (Mooney, NJ Spotlight)

Survey: Teen driver “Kyleigh’s Law” decals should be removed

Results of an online survey conducted by a northern New Jersey assemblyman about the controversial teen driver decal will be forwarded to the state attorney general, who is expected to conclude her report on the issue on Oct. 7.

The survey conducted by Assemblyman Robert Schroeder, R-Bergen, found that 86 percent of those who responded believe the decal requirement known as “Kyleigh’s Law” should be removed.

The survey, conducted from June to August, found that most people surveyed supported the other provisions of the state’s graduated driver’s license, which require a teen driving curfew and limit the number of adolescent passengers whom a driver with a graduated driver’s license can legally transport. Opponents of the decal have argued the stickers could work as magnets for sexual predators.  (Higgs, Gannett)
