Paramus NJ, A quiet Monday evening in Paramus turned into a devastating scene when a fast-moving house fire broke out, leaving two residents injured and claiming the lives of two beloved family pets.

The incident, which occurred on June 15, on the 100 block of Cloverdale Avenue, quickly escalated from a backyard flare-up into a destructive basement fire.

How the Paramus Fire Started

According to local emergency responders, the blaze ignited at approximately 6:15 p.m. on the home’s rear deck. In a brave but dangerous attempt to control the situation, two men on the scene tried to extinguish the mounting flames using a garden hose and a lawn sprinkler.

Unfortunately, the fire intensified rapidly, bypassing their efforts and spreading directly into the basement of the residential structure.

Emergency Response and Fire Rehab Logistics

As local fire crews rushed to the scene to battle the heavy flames, the Paramus Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was dispatched to provide vital fire rehabilitation services.

Because of the severe, fast-moving nature of the working fire and a relatively compressed operational window, Paramus CERT rapidly deployed a basic rehab station to support first responders battling the heat. The setup provided critical relief to emergency crews, featuring:

  • Cooling towels and seating

  • Cold water and Gatorade for hydration

  • Quick snacks for energy replenishment

Thanks to the swift action of the Paramus firefighters, the blaze was successfully brought under control in approximately 30 minutes.

Casualties and Injuries Reported

The medical status of the two occupants remains under evaluation. Both men were treated and reviewed by emergency medical personnel at the scene for burn injuries, though officials have not yet confirmed if they required transport to a local hospital.

Tragically, emergency teams confirmed that two cats perished in the fire. No other injuries to residents or first responders have been reported at this time. The exact cause of the initial deck fire is currently under investigation by local authorities.
