Ridgewood NJ, A search for an unattended firearm prompted a temporary lockdown at a busy Bergen County career training institute, drawing an immediate response from local law enforcement.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Lincoln Technical Institute, located within the Bergen Town Center shopping complex in Paramus, New Jersey, was briefly placed on lockdown as police investigated reports of a missing weapon belonging to a campus security guard.

Paramus Police Respond to Reports of Unattended Weapon

According to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti, officers responded to the campus at approximately 11:40 a.m. Police were notified that an on-duty security guard had potentially left his firearm unattended and was subsequently unable to locate it.

As a safety precaution, the campus was immediately placed on lockdown while local units secured the perimeter and conducted an initial sweep of the facility.

The tense situation was resolved quickly without any active threats to the student body or mall shoppers. By mid-afternoon, police confirmed that the immediate area was secure.

“At this time, the campus remains active and fully operational,” Chief Guidetti announced. “There is no ongoing threat to students, staff, or the public.”

The Investigation Continues at Bergen Town Center

While normal school operations and classes have resumed, the search for the missing firearm is far from over. The investigation is officially being spearheaded by the Paramus Police Department’s detective bureau, led by Detective Sgt. Mark Pinajian.

Local authorities confirmed that none of the surrounding retail stores or restaurants within the Bergen Town Center mall were impacted or forced to alter their operating hours during the brief campus incident.

Lincoln Tech, located at 240 Bergen Town Center, is a prominent career training hub in North Jersey, specializing in hands-on medical and technical certification programs. Officials state that additional information regarding the security guard’s firearm will be released to the public as the active investigation unfolds.

  1. Further proof these mall cops are just a waste of money.
Why does a training center need an armed guard?

  2. They arrested the perp, Saw the photo of the ‘young man’. Nothing to see here.. same as always

    1. If he didn’t steal the gun someone else would have. Don’t use this as an opportunity to launder your racism.
