Paramus NJ, Commuters in Paramus can finally breathe a sigh of relief—with a side of caution. The Paramus Police Department has officially reopened Century Road to both eastbound and westbound traffic. This includes the vital access point from Route 17 North, which had previously caused significant headaches for local drivers.
However, while the road is open, “business as usual” hasn’t quite returned.
The “New Normal” on Century Road
While the barricades are down, the driving experience has changed. Local authorities are advising motorists to stay sharp due to a temporary traffic pattern shift.

Why the Delay? Safety First
Paramus Mayor Chris DiPiazza addressed the closure, emphasizing that public safety remains the top priority while the borough coordinates with state officials.
“We are waiting for the DOT (Department of Transportation) to assess the damage and determine exactly what type of repairs are required,” Mayor DiPiazza stated. “There is no definitive timeframe yet, but safety is the top priority.”
The borough is working closely with engineers to ensure that once the permanent construction begins, it is done right the first time.
