Dumont NJ, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is currently probing a tragic hit-and-run incident that occurred in the borough of Dumont’s bustling business district on Thursday evening.
According to reports, a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle at the junction of Washington and Madison avenues shortly after 5:15 p.m., near the Old North Reformed Church. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of their family. Authorities have refrained from disclosing details about the vehicle involved in the incident.
Despite the presence of a traffic light at the intersection, there are no pedestrian crossing signals to assist individuals in navigating the area safely.
The investigation is jointly being conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, led by Acting Chief Matthew Finck, and the Dumont Police Department, headed by Chief Brian Joyce.
In response to the ongoing investigation, Dumont police have issued a social media alert stating, “Due to an active police investigation, West Madison Avenue will be closed between Washington Avenue and Park Avenue. Avoid the area and anticipate delays.”
