Rutherford NJ, a tragic accident occurred early Wednesday morning when a female pedestrian was struck and killed by an NJ Transit train in Bergen County, according to transit officials.
Details of the Incident
The fatal collision happened at approximately 1 a.m., just west of Rutherford Station, near Paterson Avenue, close to the Carlstadt border. The train, part of the Port Jervis Line, had departed Hoboken at 12:39 a.m., en route to Port Jervis, NY.
A spokesperson for NJ Transit confirmed that there were 22 passengers and crew members on board at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported among them.
Train Delays and Service Disruptions
Following the incident, NJ Transit issued an alert canceling the train, which was originally scheduled to arrive in Port Jervis at 3:15 a.m.. However, transit officials reported that service resumed as scheduled by the morning commute.
Ongoing Investigation
The NJ Transit Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident. As of Wednesday morning, no further details about the victim or the circumstances leading to the accident had been released.
