Paramus NJ, Paramus Police closed Route 17 in both directions between Ridgewood and Linwood Avenue for several hours on Saturday morning due to an accident, when a pedestrian was struck and killed crossing the highway . As of 12:30 p.m., all lanes were reopened after being closed since 6:30 a.m.
What a shame the poor guy was trying to get something to eat probably. This does happen time after time.
Why would anyone cross an active highway, with a concrete block in the middle, when there is a pedestrian bridge right there?
This happened a few years back just south of the park-and-ride in Ridgewood. A poor woman who was trying to cross the highway from the northbound side to the southbound side to get to the Tiger Mart at the Exxon station.
In Secaucus, they have a fence installed along the top of the center divider to prevent people from doing that.
I suspect suicide. No rational person would attempt to cross.
The victim was reportedly a homeless man who frequented the mini mart inside of the Exxon station near Popeye’s. They gave him food whenever he asked for it.
