RIDGEWOOD, NJ — There is a specific sound that signals the true arrival of spring in Bergen County: the rhythmic crack of a bat and the steady beat of the Ridgewood High School drumline.
On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Village of Ridgewood officially ushered in the sports season with the 74th Annual Ridgewood Baseball & Softball Association (RBSA) Opening Day Parade and Family Fun Day. ### A Sea of Jerseys in the Heart of the Village Despite a few April showers and cloudy skies, the energy in town was electric. Over 1,200 young athletes traded their morning cartoons for cleats, marching through the heart of Ridgewood in a vibrant display of community spirit.

What makes the RBSA Opening Day so special? It isn’t just about the first pitch; it’s about the tradition that has anchored this village for over seven decades. From kindergarteners in their first oversized jerseys to seasoned RHS players, the event represents the backbone of Ridgewood’s youth sports culture.
Highlights from the 2026 Opening Ceremonies
The morning was packed with highlights that kept the “Family Fun Day” promise:
-
The RHS Drumline: The Ridgewood High School Marching Band drumline provided the soundtrack for the morning, keeping the energy high as teams marched toward the fields.
-
Community Support: Hundreds of parents, local business owners, and supporters lined the streets, proving that baseball and softball are the true “great American pastimes” right here in North Jersey.
-
More Than Just Baseball: This year, the excitement extends across the board, with dozens of teams ready for baseball, softball, and kickball action.
Growing On and Off the Field
The RBSA remains a pillar of the Ridgewood community. Beyond teaching the fundamentals of a double play or a sacrifice fly, the association focuses on:
-
Teamwork: Building bonds that last long after the final out.
-
Sportsmanship: Learning to win with grace and lose with dignity.
-
Growth: Providing a safe, competitive environment for youth athletes to thrive.
As the 2026 season officially gets underway, we want to wish the best of luck to all the players, coaches, and dedicated “team parents.”
Let’s make some memories. Play ball, Ridgewood!
