Six months into his papacy, Pope Francis sent shock waves through the Roman Catholic church on Thursday with the publication of his remarks that the church had grown “obsessed” with abortion, gay marriage and contraception, and that he had chosen not to talk about those issues despite recriminations from critics.
His surprising comments came in a lengthy interview in which he criticized the church for putting dogma before love, and for prioritizing moral doctrines over serving the poor and marginalized. He articulated his vision of an inclusive church, a “home for all” — which is a striking contrast with his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, the doctrinal defender who envisioned a smaller, purer church.
I am obsessed with “where are the women” in the church heirarchy? They need input from the people who serve the poor and teach our children. I have lost interest in an organization that keeps us out. There are other Christian religions that accept women in the organization and decision making.
I am still holding out for a revolution where people realize that the “Nuns on the Bus” are the real church.
Why are you obsessed with changing an organization that you have lost interest in when you have multiple other organizations available to serve your needs?
Can’t you just live and let live ?
Welcome to the real world.
Sorry, but it is in the news and I have a comment to make. I still follow church issues, therre were discussions this week in the papers and again on the news.
The Catholic Church is a patriarchal institution that is becoming irrelevant in 2013. Lots of ritual but little social justice. I was taught by nuns. Nuns rule! Nuns are the boots on the ground doing God’s work.
