Ridgewood NJ, as the dust settles from the November 5 elections, political observers are assessing the state of the Democratic Party. The results—a decisive victory for Donald Trump, who swept all seven swing states and secured Republican control of the House and Senate—have sparked intense debate within Democratic ranks.
But public perception suggests the party may have some self-reflection to do.
Voter Confidence in Democrats Takes a Hit
A recent Rasmussen Reports survey paints a challenging picture for the Democratic Party. Only 32% of likely U.S. voters rated the party’s performance in the election as “good” or “excellent,” while 44% gave a “poor” rating.
Despite these lukewarm reviews from the general electorate, Democratic voters themselves seem to view things more favorably. This disconnect between party loyalists and the broader voting public underscores the challenges ahead as Democrats attempt to rebuild their appeal.
Looking to 2028: Kamala Harris Leads the Pack
Even amid post-election uncertainty, Democrats are already turning their attention to the future. A new poll by Echelon Insights reveals that Vice President Kamala Harris is the clear frontrunner for the party’s 2028 presidential nomination.
- Kamala Harris: 41% of likely Democratic voters support her candidacy.
- Gavin Newsom: California’s governor captured 8% of the vote.
- Josh Shapiro: Pennsylvania’s governor polled at 7%.
- Pete Buttigieg: The Secretary of Transportation received 6%.
- Undecided Voters: A significant number of Democratic voters remain unsure about their preferred candidate.
Harris’s lead reflects her strong name recognition and established presence in the party, but the relatively low support for other candidates suggests a field still searching for broader consensus.
A Time for Soul-Searching
The November election results have prompted intense introspection within the Democratic Party. Despite Harris’s popularity among party loyalists, the broader public’s dissatisfaction suggests deeper issues.
The losses in swing states and the GOP’s consolidation of power have exposed vulnerabilities in the Democratic strategy. Voter turnout, messaging, and engagement with key demographics are likely to be focal points in the party’s post-mortem.
As Democrats prepare for the long road to 2028, they face a critical question: How can they reconnect with voters in a way that resonates beyond their base?

They’re always in denial! About bidens alzheimers , Kamala’s incompetence, open borders, and the price of gas and groceries.
OPEC sets oil prices . . . .
And it’s based upon supply vs demand.
Your high school economics class from fifty odd years ago didn’t even apply back then, so it certainly doesn’t apply now.
Keep defending failed Democrat polices.
That’s a winning strategy.
Kackles was not good at thinking on her feet, better on her knees.
Unless they move back to center-left, they will be trounced every time.
They have not given up. Today they’re saying Trump did not win the popular vote. The counting continues and she is pulling ahead according to them. They will get it done. Then they can start fighting Trump every step of the way. They are in a war mode. Disgusting creatures.
Once victory was confirmed, the Republican lawyers who oversaw the counts, withdrew. This allowed the cheat to get back up and going in order to minimize the loss and to lay claim to the popular vote.
That’s what I thought. Trump being Trump again and lowering his shield. if he loses the popular vote it will be really bad for him. They are also probably overturn McCormick’s win in PA and senate gets to a very thin margin.
Um yes
That’s Obama behind her don’t trust that crew
I’m 65 and I’ve seen a lot of elections and campaigns. Hers was without a close second, the most pathetic and vacuous I’ve ever seen. All she had was Trump bad.
I am certain of very little. I am certain Kamala Harris will NEVER be President.
she will never win a primary so you’re correct
