Most New Jerseyans will not see any of the fiscal Benefits that were promised as a result of Marijuana Legalization

Trenton NJ, Leading Democrat’s are staking their claims in  an effort to direct “All Revenues” from legal marijuana back to their own districts.  State Senator Mike Doherty (R-23) warned that infighting among Democrats about the taxation of marijuana and how to spend any resulting revenues makes it clear that most New Jerseyans will not see any of the fiscal benefits that were promised as a result of legalization:

“While Democrats promised New Jerseyans that tax revenues from legal marijuana would be a panacea for our State budget woes, they’re already fighting over the money and how much they’ll each get for their own districts.

“Once again, struggling rural and suburban families will get none of the tax relief they deserve. It’s yet another broken fiscal promise from Governor Murphy and New Jersey Democrats.”

  1. By the time all the elected criminals and other hands out that need fed get their piece, the taxes on any legal weed sales in NJ will be prohibitive and the dark market will continue to thrive.
Why pay $80 when you can meet your contact at Van Neste Square and pay $50 for the same quality product?

  3. The immediate savings come from not having to spend millions to prosecute and incarcerate. The tax revenue is just gravy.

  5. Marijuana arrests in 2017- over 34,000 for simple possesion. Highest amount in the nation after NY and TX.

Couldnt find what that costs, but for comparison, in 2010 it was over 21,000 which cost taxpayers over 127 MILLION dollars.

Now add to that the costs of jail.

  7. “#LegalizeHeroin”

Ahh, there it is. Now say something about “protecting the children” and I’ll have Bad Faith Arguement Bingo.

  8. Note to those about people incarcerated on minor charges: Dealers plea down their charges for entering a guilty plea….so all those in jail for ‘minor’ charges were actually dealing to your children, brothers and sisters. Wise up you are being played.

  9. Yes.
Let’s legalize marijuana to save money.
Let’s apply that logic to all crimes.

    Nice Straw Man argument.
Not buying it…. and neither do you.
