RIDGEWOOD — The 39th annual Fred d’Elia Memorial Day Ridgewood Run, organized by the North Jersey Masters Track and Field Club, will take place on Monday, May 26 starting at Veterans Field.
The Ridgewood Run is one of the longest-running races in the tri-state area. The event consists of a 10K race (6.2 miles), 5K (3.1 miles), mile events and the Fun Run/Health Walk.
The event has something for everyone, from the elite runners who go all-out for prize money to first-time runners who are experiencing the thrill of participating in a race. Kids 10 years and younger annually enjoy running, skipping, walking and getting their finisher’s medals at the Fun Run.
Spectators line up along the tree-lined course to cheer for their friends, family members and just about anyone who runs by. Water stops are maintained by the runners’ families and neighbors who have been holding out water cups for years.
Seven events are scheduled, starting with the 10K race at 8:20 a.m. and followed by the 5K at 10:15. Both races have been designated as State Championship races by the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). The total prize money awarded for the feature races is $7,000.
