Reader Asks How can we get the message across that don’t want these papers littering our property and our town?

Over the years I’ve written letters to The Bergen Record/North Jersey Deals on behalf of us and our neighbors who asked me to and the papers will stop for about a month but then they’re back with a vengeance. Phone calls have the same lame effect.
How can we get the message across that don’t want these papers littering our property and our town?
Any ideas?

Information to End Delivery of Non Requested Newspapers

Residents have called Village Hall asking for a way to stop the unrequested newspapers in their driveways – we recommend resident personally contact the appropriate company at the phone number listed on the publication.

To contact The Record – call 888-473-2673; ask to be placed on the “Non Subscriber’s List”.

It may take a few calls to stop the delivery.

The Village of Ridgewood cannot regulate these deliveries as it is a “Freedom of Speech” issue

  1. I would file a littering complaint. The ‘freedom of speech’ does NOT apply when they just put classified ads and the other junk. It is NOT news. Its Litter. AND if I am gone for the weekend my mail is stopped and my paper is stopped. If these jerks leave their trash on my driveway ‘advertising’ that the place is vacant to potential burglars, they will get their ass sued if my house is broken into.

  2. The outfit that delivers has a differnt # than the Record. Call them direct. they are in elmwood park. tell them to come pick their shit up ASAP or call the RPD and file a littering complaint. Its white van that I’ve seen doing it on the west side on fridays.

  3. Call the company that the Record employs to throw garbage on your driveway

    Ask for Yerisel

    AND CALL

    Call Bergen Record
    201-646-4444

It worked for me for several years and then I recently had to call again.
Not sure how it is legal to throw garbage on my property but since RPD won’t do anything about it you have to call the Record and let them know how angry you are.

  4. Call them and make the driver pick it up. The driver will remember the house and not do it again. If they are uncooperative, a trip to municipal court to answer a littering complaint will get their attention.
They do not have a right to litter despite what someone @ the RPD told you. You may have to make a trip yourself to the Village clerk to sign the complaint. Take a picture of the paper on your property with your cellphone, and save the ‘evidence’ if it becomes a problem. Generally a firm phone call to that outfit in Elmwood park will do the trick. I do agree with the above poster’s that a call to the record is in order -and tell them you will cancell your subscription as well.
