Ridgewood Nj, a reader made some strong point promoting what they claimed was “protecting the environment “
“So the problem of carrying food home is a false argument: someone goes to the store and carries their own bags, which are empty, they carry the bags home, full. Whether or not they carry their own bags to the store has NO bearing on what they are carrying home! They are carrying the same weight home whether or not they carry their own bags into the store.
And written into every piece of legislation is exception for WIC, or any other reason that the customer cannot afford replacement bags.
It seems that laws that are working in other states scare the plastic bag industry, so they are rolling out false arguments, stating job creation, etc. Is it job creation in the US? The only job creation the plastic bags create is those of municipal workers who spend time removing bags from storm drains, trees, parks, and rivers.
Instead of singing the tune of the single use plastic bags, and other items that prove impossible to decompose, why doesn’t the Assemblywoman care about cleaning up our environment? Aren’t our officials supposed to take the side of constituents and residents who are perfectly happy to go one step towards a less plastic filled world? The plastic bag industry is suing, a desperate last ditch effort. But isn’t this the time to stand up with the majority of citizens who would like to focus on more important issues, like infrastructure, instead of gnawing away at any kind of environment protections we would like to enact?”
The ugly reality it is just about more taxes , cleaning up the environment in NJ nice try , check out Apple Ridge ,Toll Brothers is dumping containment’s into Saddle River , and no one has done a thing despite repeated warnings , but I am sure there will be a tax increase to remove the contaminants out of the drinking water at a later date .
Despite the premium we pay for everything in New Jersey :
So lets stop all the silly virtue signaling, and if we really care about the environment lets start acting like it
