The leaves still don’t get picked up on even close to reasonable schedule.
Despite being ‘on the village calender’ the street department MISSED area B COMPLETELY the weeks of October 8 and 16th despite the posted schedule. We got picked up once and the whole area looks like crap.

Maybe we should hire private contractors (just like the snow removal) . They seem to do a very good job.

We would not have the massive piles if those in charge didn’t skimp on the manpower and did the job when the piles were smaller.

The large piles, used as lame excuses, are there because the street department MISSED the scheduled removal. Since they cant blame superstorm sandy or the October storm they try to bluff the residents with these big piles that are their own creation. A tree has the same amount of leaves every year. In fact since we have FEWER trees due to the hurricane, leaf removal SHOULD have been easier.

Is the council listening?

  1. Reasons are;
    less man power.
Previous years, workers got overtime. This year only 1 Saturday 2 weeks ago.
    Town cancelled over-time last Saturday.
Also, I believe in previous years, the town used Ridgewood Water people to help out. But the surrounding towns that use Ridgewood Water complained about those workers being used for Ridgewood leaf removal.
Equipment is so old, they keep breaking down, so less available trucks and sweepers.

  2. I’m in B too. I mow my leaves in, but that doesn’t stop the piles of leaves from across the street and adjacent properties from blowing all over the sidewalk in front of my house. So I rake when I’m supposed to, and the piles get blown by the wind and passing cars back to a pre raked state. Then, the guys will come by off schedule and clean the 20% of leaves that randomly remained in the street, so I’ll be stuck with a sidewalk 1′ deep with leaves after last pickup.

    Happens every year.

  3. Keep supervising from afar………..

    That’s a big help.

  4. Blame Gabbert! I can hear it now from Mayor Aronsohn. And while Big Al plays around with his friend Loprienco about the town garage the leaves remain in the street.

  5. …Somewhere in the Heights a yellow Porsche warms up…

Common sense would dictate hiring a private contractor to do the job that the town fails miserably in. That same excuse doesn’t cut it when it snows. I’m waiting for a creative lawyer to sue the town if a motor vehicle accident occurs in an area where leaves were scheduled to be removed and the town did not remove them.
Its 6-8 weeks worth of work. Hire a contractor who would do a better job than the town. I drove down north Monroe from Waldwick today. Waldwick must have recently removed the leaves and unlike Ridgewood, it was clean curb to curb without the ‘collateral damage…leaves left on adjacent lawns’. Its a real disgrace. I have lived here since the late 1960s and the services decline as the real estate taxes increase.

  7. the village did not pass any sec’s up, that is a b s story. the dept works one sec at a time. yes the dept is behind because of just like # 1 said up top, but no one sec was passed up. and if any thing sec b got an extra pick up. and all that info is on record.so some on needs to get the right info in order about the pass up on sec b., not true. but yes the dept needs more workers that is very true,
who do you blame. well it could be a lot of people.the old mayor and council new of this.it;s not new news. dr,gabbert new it, this mayor and council new it, and the upper
power dogs know this. the blog, the patch, the ridgewood news, the record news all know this. so you can not just point a finger at any one person.that would not be fare. I do know that the workers love what they do , but they can only do what they can with 7 workers.the dept had 25 in 1995,in 2000 they had 20, in 2005 they had 15. this is old news. in the past 2 years the village got very lucky with the help of fems who gave the town 15 workers for 2 years of free labor, yea free. this is all on record.my taxes are going up and my services are not,can some one tell me what happend to all that pay that went to hire workers.in the parks they are down to 4 from 10. yes people that you and mine tax money not at work.

  8. The snow plows will take care of this issue….

YOur full of shit. I live in area B. I am the original poster. THEY SKIPPED EVERY STREET IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD with the front end loaders on the 2 weeks scheduled. All they did was go down north Monroe with the vac truck. Save your excuses for a shitty job.
Look to Waldwick, midland park and hohokus to see how its done PROPERLY.

  10. your high bro. I ‘m on montivista, and if any thing we got an extra pick up.so what street do you live on in sec b. this is henny ,b . yes I know other towns are doing a good job. the bottom line is you and I are not getting the service because the dept’s are low in staff, I called the parks dept up and they are down to 4 from 10. the street dept is down to 7 from 12 in 2010. in 2005 they had 15, in2000 they had 20 in 1995 they had 27. so who is full of shit . look up your info . how can the crews do the same amount of work with more then half gone.and no week ends. and in the past 2 years the village got 15 workers from fema for free. so what is it you do not get.what the fuck do you do for work. because you sound like a big fool.I,m in sec b for 36 years 1977 bro.when did you move in 2010 from ny city.no balls ,they all know benny,b. no one knows you.hummmm.
