Reader says Enforcement of New Parking Law on Bogert and Cambridge “has taken things to the limit”

I find this new”law” has taken things to the limit. I park my car a block away to allow a repair man to park in my driveway. My dog walker comes, parks in my driveway to walk my dog as I have recently had surgery. Repairman said he may need to go out before the dog walk is back I tell her to pull in the street and I will stand with her car. A few min later , while standing in the street a traffic office pulls up, I explain the situation and that she will be back in a min or 2 and he says the car is in violation and MUST give me a ticket to put on the car. He never even gets out of his car! I ask why must he be so severe and I was told it is his job. I take the ticket to avoid upsetting my dog walker and I am told it I don’t put it on the car or move the car she may get a second ticket. I email this to all council members, only to hear back from 1who doesn’t even seem to know what I am referring to when I ask for the so called safety study that I have asked for on 3 separate occasions. Is this level of law enforcement really necessary!

  1. why aren’t repair people and landscapers exempt???

  2. why aren’t repair people and landscapers exempt???

…because this was a knee jerk feel-good reaction to appease a few outraged residents, not a well though out piece of legislation.

  3. Towns out of control..a legal parking spot in daylight hours is granted right
ESP for normal commerce and home maintenance activities..question would they ticket a oil delivery truck. Owners vendor or PSEG ? Or Verizon or optimum..case closed ..town continues to strip value from har earned homes and taxpayers to please the regulators gone amok..imagine trying to sell these homes..should be a lawsuit on overreach and value of property confiscation…the British tried this once on Tea….

  4. 8:50 – repair people and other service vehicles are not exempt because who decides what is a valid exemption? Is someone dropping their kids’ friend off not valid for parking, but it is ok for a flower delivery? This is the same issue that is happening on Pomander – the residents there wanted no parking, but still allow their own service vehicles. Who is to say what business is worthy of parking? In the case of Pomander, if I owned one of the nearby businesses I would already be speaking to an attorney. For Bogard and Cambridge the situation is a bit different – the residents should have been notified by the town long before the ordinance was voted on.

The town council needs to make is a policy that before any no parking goes into effect there is a valid safety reason backed up with a proper study. Then before the decision is made the residents on that street and streets within a few blocks need to be notified so they can voice an opinion.

When people are left out of the decision they get angry. That is what is happening all over the town lately.

  5. Sheer stupidity by the village.

  6. I have seen on a few occasions, adults with children, and even some adults pushing strollers, cutting through the circle at bogert and Cambridge. If safety was such an issue there, why wouldn’t they be walking along the outter circle closer to homes?

  7. Residents and those visiting residents should have permits for cars, That’s ridiculous that homeowners and those visiting them cannot park on the street. Give each homeowner 2 permits to display in a windshield that they can give to a visitor or worker.

  8. what is ridiculous is that this street is singled out for special treatment.
    Public streets… public parking…

  9. People

We have met the enemy of freedom of movement and valid property use and access to reasonable use and commerce relating to our properties and he is Us.what if you only had a home with two small driveway spots..

We voted them in we can revoke their stay with a recall.

A home without parking access is home of little value to anyone.,including future buyers…in fact a theft of reasonable use, access and commerce.

  10. sounds like everyone is finally catching on. reality.. there was no safety or traffic study done AND one of the council members told the village that the residents were ALL in agreement and support of this new ordinance WRONG!! AND the same council member stated that she was going to go door to door and tell ALL of the residents of these 2 streets about the council meeting in February, which she never did, or at least the 25 homes I have spoken to never got a visit or notice from her!! Seems there is an issue about this one council member who quite frankly should be asked to step downfall providing false information and not fulfilling her said duties. Oh wait… cane guess who her good friend it???? I bet you you can!!! Can you guess who kids are dating each other?? I bet you can!! Do what you want but stop using your position to bully residents. Step down and let someone who is honest and a representative of the entire community take your job!!!!

  11. I find it very ironic that the person who started this parks her vehicle facing the wrong way constantly. And yes, no one ever came to my home or contacted me regarding this issue. I only found out when the signs went up.

  12. on the street not in her driveway

  13. She’s not a council member. Let’s get the facts straight as a starting point for discussion.

  14. 2:08 yes SHE is a council member that lives a few blocks away
