Reader says, “Having affordable housing shoved down our throats because of “privilege” is the biggest con of all time.”

high density housing

“That’s just the point. Residents who moved to Ridgewood for the small-town feel and great schools pay a price. It’s called property taxes and incredibly high home prices. These residents work hard to get here and live here.
Having affordable housing shoved down our throats because of “privilege” is the biggest con of all time. The ones making money are the lawyers and developers. I want to live in Alpine and send my kids to private school. But I can’t. That’s life, but don’t tell me to move if I don’t like it. I worked my ass off to get here and If I wanted to live in high-density housing areas, I would have moved to Park Ridge.”

  2. Anyone fortunate enough to live and grow up in Ridgewood is what they call priveledge. White, black, Latino, Asian, etc.
But then again. I don’t believe in priveledge and like the article says. We don’t know the sacrafices some make to live in this town and area.

  3. Park Ridge settled for the monstrosity in town so we could avoid 972 units at the Sony property. Of course the court master has completely back tracked on his findings and we are probably going to get screwed again. The judges, the court masters, the politicians ALL corrupt. My
husband and I bust our butts and have worked extremely hard to live in Bergen County. Like the original post said, I can’t afford to live in Alpine or even Ridgewood for that matter. It’s sickening to me how they are ruining NJ and making money hand over fist all under the guise of helping people!! Build 100% affordable housing complexes (like Park Ridge is planning) then I’ll believe they actually care about the people they claim they are trying to help!! Also, this pandemic is creating the need/want for space! Good luck renting all these monstrosities out to the people that pay!!!

  4. Can blame Obama and Biden. Their policies want to make the suburbs the same as our inner cities.

  5. A vote for Biden is a vote for more trash moving into Ridgewood.

  6. To be honest every other town is having affordable living shoved down their throat’s so why should your town be any different. I really think you have some nerve saying something like that we all work hard for our homes and every town gets affordable living so you don’t like it move out of the area…

  7. All I gotta say is think of the single moms who are busting thier ass day and night and only scraping enough just for rent in nj and thier children who were born under priviledge who deserve a chance to grow up with food in thier stomachs and to not be a criminal or homeless. If you don’t like it then fight Congress for a better living wage and more reasonable housing or if your a business owner pay you’re employees a livable wage

  8. Totally agree with the poster. Had I known that these high density plans, garage etc. plans were being discussed before I moved here 5 yrs ago I would have never come to RW. I have worked my a$$ off to bring my family here and when I learned what they were planning (after I bought the house) it felt like a punch in the stomach. I knew that this place would start to deteriorate. We moved for the village life. Unfortunately I can’t move right now but I would do it in a heartbeat.

  9. Well stated! Ridgewood and Bergen County in general- are open to all. That is if you work your “ @$$ “ off , make sacrifices , do without in order to pay the unbelievably high property taxes and home cost. What’s UNFAIR is to have those who struggle to achieve living here-have to pay for others .

  10. I miss the Ridgewood, I grew up in
This building doesn’t fit in Ridgewood
I Miss Drapkins, Woolworths , Mandee Shop, the Hudson St , Fire House
Just to name a few …

  11. Siyanorah, Ridgewood

  12. It looks like $hit.
Will soon smell like it too….

  13. The federal government’s instrusive Transit Hub master plan is responsible for the large scale, urban inspired, high rise apartment buildings being built near train lines up and down the east coast. Your insulting comment about Park Ridge was uncalled for. At least Park Ridge is fighting further over development in court. Watch and learn how to defend your hometown.

  14. 5 years from now, most stores will be shut, the garage will house everything but cars and ask the developments will house low income and ruin the downtown more. It’s not just here it’s across the nation. Not… making America great.

    1. try the 3 amigos and NJ democrats making NJ suck

  15. Can you say “Paul Aronsohn”?

  16. I’ve been saying for years to allow this stuff in will just destroy the town… What happens when you put in high density housing and ugly monolithic buildings? The remaining homes become Doctor’s offices – and “Voila!” you have another Hackensack! Good Job, keep it up

  17. True

  18. Here’s a “Free Market Laissez-faire” idea: Get rid of zoning (= government regulation) and let the market decide what kind of housing should get built.

    1. because we allow anonymous postings there is often a delay in approval

  19. Here’s a “Free Market Laissez-faire Point of View”: Abolish zoning ( = government regulation) and let the market decide what housing gets built.

  20. You just wait until all the apartments are full you’re going to see problems

  21. Keeping voting for liberal democrats and this is what happens.

The downtown area is an eye sore. Slowly but surely there will be nothing left but homeless and vacancies.

There is no way the buildings meet zoning code schools already have 24:1 in each class.
