How have we gotten to a point where a man asking for directions to a school triggers 8 cops and a lock down? It was a grandfather asking for directions. I am glad the police responded but it seems pretty extreme to bring him in for questioning instead of just figuring out that he was a grandfather and then giving him directions to the school
So everyone is an expert about Police responsiveness in hindsight? Instead of being relieved that this turned out to be a big nothing, some are somehow upset over a the appearance of “excessive force”. Look, we live in different times now with 24/7 news cycles about child abductions and crazies shooting crowds of people. Someone obviously saw this guy and what with his look and him asking where the school was, got a little concerned and called it in.
As far as I’m concerned, the cops did a great job. No-one got hurt . They cops don’t always do a great job, but in this instance, they did.
I saw the same man walking that day on W. Ridgewood Ave. In fact, I walked right past him. I noticed the yellow pants, but no black vest. I did not think he looked suspicious. Everyone comes with their own set of past experiences. If someone else thought seeing this guy (and his unusual clothing) warranted a call to the police, that is their right to make that call. Very relieved that we had quick response from our police force and that all turned out well.
I love all these armchair assholes who think they know better than the police how to handle a potential emergency.
Gotta keep the Knudsen kids busy doing something besides the never-ending PSEG work.
Your right 2:29 and there is a lot of them.
Bottom line: the RPD didn’t need to send out 8 armed officers to deal with this “potential emergency”. Two or three would have been more than sufficient. And, they certainly didn’t need to arrest the guy. Get ready for our taxes to go up when this guy sues the village for $50 million. Nice job RPD, nice job boys. Not only are your sky high salaries killing us, but Rambo-style behavior is as well. #DrainTheRidgewoodSwamp

4:19 – That’s a gratuitous swipe for absolutely no good reason. You must be a real hemorrhoid
What do you mean by eight armed officers? They are all armed. Did you want parking enforcement to manage this? Geeeeez, you are a moron
2 of the 10 officers at the scene were not armed. According to my abacus, 10 minus 2 = 8. You’re the moron 9:59pm!!
