” I am certain there would be many fewer accidents if pedestrians would not assume that they can walk into any crosswalk without looking as they assume they always have the right of way–even when they are crossing on a red light. I can’t even count the times that the pedestrian is listening to his earphones and doesn’t even look one way before crossing. A car can be right in the midst of a turn or crossing to the other side of the street and the pedestrian–NOT limited to kids–just walks on. It definitely should be the pedestrian’s fault if he/she just walks out. I was there on the corner when a bicyclist kept going against the red light after several cars had already gone through the intersection. Luckily the motorist only hit her back tire but she could have been seriously injured. The responding Officer asked the girl “What in the world were you thinking? You had a red light.”
The gIrl’s response “They always stop for me. I’m in the crosswalk.” This attitude just has to STOP! “

  1. 100% correct statement

  2. 100% correct statement…. but be prepared to be attacked by the loons.

  3. I am certain that there would be fewer accidents if drivers paid attention to the road and not their electronic devices when driving. Also , when I walk in the CBD I wait for cars to stop and let me cross and they often do not especially on Broad Street in front of the Super Cellars area and Union St. in back of Talbots. Why? because there are no police there. Cars stop in front of Van Neste Square because there are police cars there watching.
Cars are vehicles controlled by people. Many of the people driving cars hate other people and would just as soon run over someone and kill them. Have you noticed in the news how many hit and run driving incidents there are. The question is why are so many people so hateful. Is it because the area is expensive and crowded; is it some kind of me first attitude, and you can go to hell. Of course those things all contribute. Does anyone know other reasons , or the reason?

  4. Yes it would help. It only takes a second. Just stupid and lazy if u do not.

  5. Many a time I have had to stop suddenly for a jaywalker on East Ridgewood Ave , honked the horn and am given the finger – now what did I do wrong? Would they rather I hit them? People are so entitled and think they can do no wrong….

  6. I doubt that people are hoping to kill pedestrians. They just forgot that they exist and want them to go away.

  7. Of course pedestrians should be looking. Of course drivers should be looking. Why in the world have people become so recklessly stupid?

  8. Jaywalking is illegal in between cars. If they get hit it’s thear pork.

  9. RE: “Of course pedestrians should be looking. Of course drivers should be looking. Why in the world have people become so recklessly stupid?”
    .
Because they are taught (indoctrinated?) to be dependent upon others and to NOT be responsible for themselves or their actions.
    .

  10. Motorists: Stop this business of stopping dead in the road in the middle of your lane, flashing your brights, and signaling for another motorist to take your hard-won right-of-way and cross in front of you. This behavior is getting out of hand and is clearly increasing in prevalence among the weak minded. It’s beginning to confuse the public as to what the rules of the road actually are, and why they should be adhered to in almost all circumstances. Pro-tip to other motorists: Never indulge these roadway virtue signalers. Force them to retain their right of way by not allowing them to dictate your actions on the road. If a standoff ensues, so be it.

  11. The above is absolutely correct. People stop in the middle of road like Godwin Ave. in town and WAIT for a parking space to appear and wave for you to pass into the opposite lane where you can get hit by oncoming car.

Also, don’t be dictated to by town council to pay 75 cents an hour to shop in the CBD. Get it online or go to the many great nearby malls where parking is free. CBD prices are higher, also
