” Leaves have been falling for thousands of years why is it such a pain in the ass in the village. We just don’t understand this. Many years ago we had no problem why is it a problem in the past few years is it manpower, equipment issues, or is it management organization experience the problem which is it. Can anyone answer?”

Because Ridgewoodians have a stick up their ass about many things including leaves. I leave most of the leaves to decompose naturally. Most people here don’t do that. They frown at that. With a big stick up their asses.
All about the $$ from fines. They use the state dept of environmental protection to say that leaves cant stay in the street for more than 7 days because they contaminate waterways. That’s what the village told me a few years back. I asked if that meant the leaves that have fallen into the Saddle River and Hohokus Brook for thousands of years are contaminating it too. They had no answer.
People who live in Ridgewood want their property to be pristine. They don’t believe nature should cover their property as is such as the town DPW doesn’t pick up curbside leaves in certain areas as DPW states. So problem lies with residents and with the DPW.
Combination of factors.
1. There’s a lot more leaves these days. More leaves get put on the kerbside as almost everyone now gets almost every single one of them from their yards into the road, using either a service or power blowers.
2. Pick-up scheduling is difficult as residents are incapable of working with the schedules and just put the leaves out when they feel like it, which is often after the scheduled pick-up.
3. Pick-ups are difficult as many residents put things like Xmas trees, tree branches, and other assorted crap into what should only be leaf piles.
I really think the DPW In Ridgewood and Midland Park Do a great job getting rid of the leaves. Unfortunately the towns people don’t help by putting them out at the wrong times and not doing anything to help
The word on the street is.
All of above !
In the end it’s only leaves.
Hey we can get hit with a big blizzard Before Thanksgiving. It happened before we cannot control mother nature.
Let’s not forget the idiots who park in the street 24/7 and interfere with the schedule .
How come the police do not enforce the ban on all night parking?
I’m on my way to work by 6am and the same cars are out every night…no tickets unless a neighbor calls in to report it.
I think the newcomers from NY (mostly Brooklyn) are taking care of this issue. I have noticed in multiple cases the first thing they do is call a tree service and cut trees because they don’t want to deal with leaves and the trees may fall onto the house. These are the same people that are hell bent on “global warming” and the environment. Between this group and PSEG turning trees into bushes I think we are on a path toward a solution.
It’s amazing that the police are stopping kids from playing music in the garage before the 10 PM rule and law. And yet they are not issuing summons for cars that are parked overnight ,very interesting someone’s not doing their job right. Who’s running this town what political party. Well we can say it’s getting sickening. The politics in the village of Ridgewood is running the town. What a disgrace. What a free-for-all. Can you imagine in five more years what’s going to happen to the village of Ridgewood my god no wonder people are selling their homes and moving down south. We are not the leaders anymore we are followers. I just don’t know who we are following? We are in a mess.
What a shit show.
Well with all the talk on global warming maybe we won’t have to worry about leaves any more the trees will stay green all year hence no leave pick up to worry about!
