Reader says , “One Village One Vote, Their sole goal is to prevent citizens from voting on the Board of Education proposed budgets”

“Thiesen’s (and the entire One Village-One Vote cabal) argument that voting has to be moved out of the schools for safety is utter nonsense. AT Hawes, you enter the gym and do not even see or go near the children. At the High School there are gates preventing you from going beyond the polling place in the gym. Siobhan and others are just fear mongers. Their sole goal is to prevent citizens from voting on the Board of Education proposed budgets. These individuals hold the Board and Fishbein in such HIGH regard (they think they are infallible) that they want to deny citizens their legal right to vote on these budget proposals. This is Jeanne Thiesen who wrote on social media that she wanted to prevent certain individuals from speaking at BOE meetings to “filter” them out. She and all of them are controlling, insane, disturbed people.”

  1. Theisen and Winograd should both leave on the next train out.

  2. This village is run like the Nazis. They love taking away residence power. Such Dirty politics, they will never learn.

  3. Wasn’t a new BOE voted in a few weeks ago. Wasn’t their call to arms that they are going to slash the BOE budget? Shouldn’t we all just wait and see what this group has planned.

  4. Absolutely. And if they are not successful, rather than just voting them out and having to live with what they have done, we can vote the budget down again.

  5. It is the Village Council that makes the monetary cut on a failed budget. We need to keep the budget vote. Without it, there are no checks and balances. No reason for budget presentations. No ability to challenge specific line items or needless expenditures and little opportunity to advocate for areas that need improvement. Too much power for a 5 member board that basically does the Superintendent’s bidding.

  6. Why does ridgewood have to be one of the only towns who vote on their budget? Most of the people who voted it down have ZERO interest in the schools. Just lower taxes. Why not vote in a Board of Ed that we can trust to set a budget. A budget vote undermines the board of Ed’s greatest responsibility.

    1. Ridgewood is not one of the only towns that vote on the school budget: Hackensack, Passaic, Cliffside Park, Fairview, Clifton, Oakland, Ridgewood , Totowa and Garfield.

      1. Many gave it up when the 2% cap was initiated

  7. We are still in the minority. And if anyone can justify what positive benefit the budget cut this year caused I’m listening. All we did was make our education related budget more susceptible to state cuts

    1. the BOE needs constant supervision, repeat over and over

  8. How do YOU know whether people who voted the budget down have zero interest in the BOE?

  9. I don’t agree that the BOE needs constant supervison. We have some new good honest members. But Fishbein, now HE needs constant supervision.

  10. It’s obvious who the people who voted the budget down are… it takes a ridgewood village. Most of the most prominent voices don’t have kids in the district. Including our lovely new BOE member.

  11. I am a senior citizen and have no children. But I support the schools in town. How dare you decide how I voted!??

  12. I am not making any accusations towards how anyone voted. All I did was generalize the rhetoric that is the overwhelming message shared on one specific Facebook page.
