The village needs additional parking for commuters. Period. Please stop with the notion that restaurants and shops need additional parking – this is a myth propagated by the apartment developers. Build a 2 story garage and charge a lower rate for in town commuters and $5,000 per year for out of town commuters. To ensure that no apartment dwellers park there, enforce a no parking ordinance between 2:00 am and 5:00 am. Developers will bail immediately.
If you really think apartment dwellers and their guests will want to use the lot over night then just add 50 spots and make it like $20 to park over night. This will also be good for people who end up parking in town to take the train or go out and end up Ubering home to avoid DWI. It would be good if they could jsut pay to leave car instead of getting a ticket for making the responsible choice.
Those making the responsible choice and leaving their car on the street overnight will get a ticket too.
No one’s going to pay Manhattan prices in Ridgewood. I’m going to leave my car home and just use Uber or some other kind of transportation it’s going to be ridiculous in this town please
The apartment dwellers will not have parking for a second car or even enough for every family to have one spot. The developers are counting on Ridgewood to supply the excess parking needed.
