Reader says Town is moving in the wrong direction

Valley is a disgrace to Ridgewood with their actions. Why would anyone support Valley in this town anymore? I believe Hackensack is Top 5 in the country. The 10 minute extra drive is now worth it for me. This town has so many issues. A 3-2 Council, we’re the minority on this.

High Density housing, unreasonable size units we’re given. A 15 Million dollar parking garage? Are you insane? How much did the Town Hall cost in the flood zone. How many studies have we paid for? Let’s do another study. Steel beams and concrete..$15 million dollars, only in RichWood. Town is a disgrace and moving in the wrong direction. I just heard, needs to be confirmed, the Engineer is asking taxpayers sidewalks to be repaired? Take a look at the sidewalks in the CDB. Hint, the red bricks meeting concrete. Don’t ask others to do when you don’t! True

  1. Every homeowner is responsible for maintaining their own sidewalks in every town. Get over it. It’s not Ridgewood specific. The objectives of maintaining the sidewalks it to cut down on the liability should someone hurt themselves. Eventually, when you go to sell you home, you are going to have to repair the sidewalks; when we purchased our home 24 years ago, the sidewalks needed to be repaired before the sale could go through.

  2. Paul, Albert, and Gwenn will never, ever back down on any of these issues. Their egos would not allow them to admit they are wrong, wrong, wrong.

  3. And yet….you still live there.
    What’s the definition of STUPID?

  4. Yes I still live here and will continue to do so even after my children leave the school system.

  5. Mean spirited exchange as usual. Frustration abounds

  6. How is the truth is mean spirited? Was is said in a tone that you can’t handle? The second part, frustration abounds, you bet 100%. We all agree sidewalks do need to be repaired. The point here is if the engineer is asking taxpayers to take care of theirs then the CDB must also comply. Case in point: sidewalks across the street from East Coast Burger. And yet you still live here? Most of the frustrated have children in the school system, moving is expensive (but will occur once empty nesters), and NYC work is close. All towns in NJ have issues. Also the 3 being discussed will soon not be there. A $15 million dollar garage, does bidding goup from the contractors once they know it’s Richwood? You bet it does. The same goes for all homeowners. The rule of thumb was 20%, that may be higher now. Deal with the Truth

  7. High density housing causing all the howling by the vocalantis? Everybody is so upset at the 35 units +/- per acre approved by the Planning Board. The end of Camelot as we know it? Hmm, are you all familiar with the classic apartment building at the intersection of Franklin and Mapl? The one that would be included in any discussion on preserving the historical character of the “Village.” The building contains 45 apartments and sits on
0.36 acres. The density is 125 units per acre. Yup, 125 units per acre. I don’t see the building collapsing under its own weight. I don’t see the vocalantis screaming for its removal.

  8. Sounds like an old boring song if not happy then move. 1:56 pm is right.

  9. So by Ruriks reasoning, we have one, why not a dozen more. Yeah, that makes so much sense. Why don’t you run for council Rurik?

  10. Rurik as usual hits the nail on its head – – imagine 5 or 6 more of those buildings downtown. And that is just to start. Once we allow 5 more of those “classic buildings” to be built, everyone who owns property downtown is going to want to build the same things and there will be no reason and nothing to stop them.

Folks like Rurik need to take their heads out of the sand and think about this whole process rationally. They may be well meaning, but they need to quit with the knee jerk reaction that says build and it will be beautiful. What are we doing in the long run? Why are we giving up the character of our Village simply to profit the developers? Just as importantly, why are we giving up the value of our homes to profit the developers and the Valley Hospital? Remember, no corner of Ridgewood is going to be safe from devaluation once our streets, schools, public services become even more crowded than they are now. We already see a drop in property values as people say why should they live in overcrowded Ridgewood when they can live in neighboring towns that have more to offer and schools that are now just as highly rated.

  11. I find it interesting you mention that apartment building at Franklin and Maple. When I first moved into town many years ago, I heard a couple of long-timers mentioning that building and how the Village would never make that mistake again.

  12. Get ready to say goodbye to the sunshine. There will no longer be a sunny side of the street in Ridgewood with these tall buildings and parking garages blocking the light. It will be horrible.

  13. Agree with 9:16, although I would certainly not say that Rurik is anything but “well meaning.” Self-serving most definitely.

  14. Keep complaining, pay your taxes, and your local, state, and Federal Gov’t will do whatever they want. You can’t fight city hall, you can’t beat the local kangaroo courts or planning boards. Half this town has their heads in the sand at their 2nd homes. They don’t vote, they don’t know, and they are too busy taking care of their own number ones. I’d like to thank all the fighters against Valley’s over expansion, High Density Housing, and all the other issues now and soon to be.
