Say wait till they build another 500 housing units in the middle of town

Solution= let the kids walk to school. Problem solved. When I grew up we walked to school. We did not need ‘helicopter parents’.

Have police start giving tickets to these parents and it will change.

I’ve got a great idea — lets build another 500 housing units in the middle of town so that we have more traffic past Ridge and all our schools every morning. Could someone suggest this please to the planning board and Village council. I bet no one has thought of that idea yet.

If they build new housing units, the taxpaying new residents will have just as much right to attend the school as your children. Chances are, since you have children in school you are also a new resident. So the last person to move here wants the door shut to others. So typical. Here’s a unique idea, let the kid WALK to school.

Same thing at the preschools, First Pres and the school in the church by stop and shop. The cars line up with no regard for the motorists who need to drive on the double yellow line to pass them.

It is the parents who create the safety problems. Their convenience is more important than the safety of the adults & children who travel these roads.

do you really expect a 4 year old to walk to preschool? Or for a parent to walk their kid there, 15 minutes each way, before getting on a train or driving to work? Cut them some slack for Christ’s sake. It’s common knowledge to avoid schools / bus routs certain times of the day. Take a different route! If you simply must go to S&S at that time of the day, go in the back way.

After 2nd grade, my kid’s walking. Maybe she’ll get a ride to a few blocks away as my wife heads out to work, but I can’t see getting dropped off at school…for the reason mentioned above.

  1. Parents and children are just plain lazy, i line two and one half blocks from a elementary school and the majority of parents drive there kids to school it is totally ridiculous.

  2. You drive to school because you are lazy and selfish, not because you need to catch a train to the city. So self-important.

People don’t need to learn how to navigate the town to avoid the drop offs at several schools. Obey the laws, hire a sitter or use the Y program. If you are having trouble managing your life then rethink your decisions, maybe find a “less important” job or move someplace less hectic. Move next door to the elementary school and make life easier.

There, all those were legal and safe options.

  3. “do you really expect a 4 year old to walk to preschool? Or for a parent to walk their kid there, 15 minutes each way, before getting on a train or driving to work?”

Four year olds are usually accompanied on this type of walk. Do the logistics really boggle your mind? How do you make decisions at work?

  4. The writer who says ‘avoid the area for chr– sake-” typifies the arrogance of these new residents. They could care less who they inconvenience and their rude attitude is disgusting. Talk about a sense of entitlement!

  5. The Ridgewood Complainers are out in force!

#2, people with “less important jobs” often have a hard time affording Ridgewood. I didn’t buy a house near a school. Maybe you shouldn’t have, either. You move.
#3, are you offering to accompany my kid every morning? Ridge is between our house and my wife’s job. Why shouldn’t my kid get a ride…it’s on the way. Oh right! YOU have a problem with it…that half hour window of congestion is too much for you to handle. Talk about a sense of entitlement.
#4, Yes, the new residents are arrogant. There is no irony in your post, whatsoever. No siree.

    1. I walked my kids to school until they could walk alone. you should walk yours. – it is really not a chore at all.

The safety of your family is not worth the danger that you pose to the community. Really? You ned to block the road in front of a school because you and your spouse work? That’s your excuse?

I guess that you and your wife have important jobs but can’t afford to pay for childcare in the AM? Time to take a look at your life choices. Maybe you can’t afford the life that you are trying to live.

    2. Your kid shouldn’t get a ride because it makes you a law breaker. It will also make your kid fat and lonely.

    3. If it is halfway between your house and her job then there is no problem. Your wife can walk the kids to school and then walk to work. It can’t really be that far to get to Kings on foot.

      1. Never said anything about halfway.

This is all moot anyway. If I have my way, my kid won’t go to school in RGWD because we will have moved on and rented the house to some suckers who have a higher tolerance for the COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN COMPLAIN brigade.

        1. yes because only “approved” people are allowed to complain, “approved” by the “In” crowd and then they can only complain about Gabbert’s $12 grand raise , but not $$00,000 toilets or massive F-ups with the Village Hall …

  6. Helicopter parents do a great disservice to their children by making them helpless,

Kids need to walk more , not always ,not everyday , but more and maybe not 4 year olds but what about 9, 10 and 11 year olds ??

  7. Ticket cars that break the traffic laws. Then lower my taxes please. Problem solved.
