Readers say Leaf My Trees Alone

To Mike Sedon: You are a nice guy BUT leave me and my trees alone! I don’t need more government telling me what trees I can and cannot take down on MY property. AND, if the village needs to plant more of their own trees then they should start planting the trees that were never planted and died at the recycling center!

“village to examine trees on private property and if a tree had a diameter larger than 6 inches, it could not be taken down unless it was deemed diseased, dead or a hazard.” Hey Deputy Mayor Mike Sedon your going to tell taxpayer that they cannot take down a tree on their own property “village to examine trees on private property” are you kidding me? We pay taxes on or land and if we the taxpayers want to take down tree on our property because we want more sunlight or plant a garden who the hell do you and the village think you are to tell us what to do. You are really get out there on this one .

  1. Ptivate property. Worry about village issues.

  2. Strongly disagree. Town is entitled to make sure it stays leafy. Property owners must not clear cut, as has been done. I like this ordinance.

  3. So Councilman Sedon when the RBA or BOED wants to take down trees to expand or build a new field they should be subject to the same policy . Right?

  4. One tree, fine. Multiple trees is the big issue. As originally proposed, this restriction would only be enforced for those who came before the Planning Board or Board of Adjustment. How it morphed into single tree mode with permit required before anything is done is beyond me.

  5. You don’t own your property. You rent it from the Village. Get used to it.

  6. #TreeLivesMAtter

  7. The question is only with regard to trees situated at or near the property line along the street. So called shade trees. Not other trees. Lighten up, Francis.

  8. My new crazy neighbor came in and cut down every single tree on the property. Healthy 50′ oaks, maples, etc. Probably 6 or 7 of them on a smaller property. Then they took down 3 huge pines right on the property line that were about 10′ from my house making my entire house 10 degrees warmer in the summer. They’ve gone down the property line and cut every single neighbors tree branches at the property line OR extended over into other peoples property and cut branches. The tore out half of a hedge that went across both of our properties. They hardscaped their backyard and put in HUGE lights (looks like a damn 7-11 parking lot) a few feet from the property line so that I can no longer sit on my couch in my living room. I can read a book on my porch with the light that extends onto my porch. It’s so bad it actually crosses my entire property and illuminates the neighbor on the other side of my property. It lits up my son’s room like Yankee stadium and he cant have his window open because of the light intrusion (we installed blackout curtains). Who the hell approved that electrical installation (yes, they had permits). I know I could file a complaint about the lights but I’m trying to live nex to this wacko. It would be nice if we had some sort of regulation about clear cutting. It really is a quality of life issue . . . especially if you have to live next to it.

  9. Wow 10:46pm, your neighbor sounds like the Chevy Chase character Griswold in the movie Christmas Vacation. Caused a regional blackout with his Christmas lights. At least Griswold’s display was seasonal!

  10. You should have bought the property 10:46 if you wanted all that privacy or better yet move to a farm.

  11. “The question is only with regard to trees situated at or near the property line along the street” Whats NEAR the property line 10:03 1 ft
2 ft 6 ft or should we leave it up to an arbitrary call by a government employee

  12. Mike, focus on what matters please

  13. Don’t go holier than thou about residents’ trees. What about artificial turf, especially in a flood plane; artificial turf means DEATH to all life. Talk about destruction of our already destroyed ecosystem, NATURE. Plant trees in Maple Field like there used to be. No more artificial turf.

What about the still open possibility of clear cutting trees in Schedler. Even dead trees provide food for birds, where insects inhabit. No dead trees shall be removed in public fields. There are not enough of them.

Kids will have to learn to live with nature be a part of nature not apart from nature and wait for grass to grow before playing their games.

Some residents cut down trees because they are afraid branches or the whole tree could fall on them and kill them in a storm. We have worse storms now because of man made climate change. And now people on the council want residents to risk having their families killed from trees that can fall on them and fall through their house.
Residents should go to court and fight over the idea of having to pay a fine to cut down a tree on their property.

  14. When the roots of a village owned tree block your sewer line, in the street (not under your property) the ordinance makes YOU pay the bill, not the village. Look to spend $5000-$$10,000 for the repair. This was changed years ago via ordinance, sticking homeowners with the tab. It’s contradictory to this new proposal with big brother nanny government. If I have a big oak tree peppering my new car with acorns, I’ll cut the damm tree down before it falls on my house. Ps I own the house, I pay taxes, I don’t live in my in-laws basement.
