Readers says Mayor Aronsohn’s first year has been a disaster

Read the Ridgewood News today, the Mayor’s Corner in which he discusses his many accomplishments of his first year.

Hmmm…let’s see….we can add misappropriation of funds by using police and fire to help a private citizen at bargain basement rates, going on a tirade against Councilwoman Walsh for a parking ticket in order to divert attention from Pucciarelli’s alleged illegal meeting, leading a witch hunt against Councilman Riche for a contract that the Mayor wholeheartedly approved, rude dismissal of the Preserve Graydon members who asked that the ramp plan be reevaluated, asking a citizen to retract or revise a letter to The Ridgewood News and thereby manipulating the press…..wait a minute, that is not the past year, that is just the past few months.

Ridgewood Mayor’s Corner: A look back at the last year

The Ridgewood News

It has been one year since I became mayor and our current council got down to business. And while we have addressed a myriad of issues, much of our focus has been on one central theme: Making village government more responsive to the people it serves.

  1. What areas of improvement can our readers here suggest for the future.

  2. Mr Mayor:

Here are some suggestions that might make your next year better for you, and certainly will make it better for Ridgewood.

    1. stop being nasty toward fellow council members. Let’s have some dignity and respect coming from the mayor and his cohorts. It is embarrassing and it does not move us forward at all. In fact, sarcasm and slander move us way, way off the agenda.

    2. admit that you were wrong in your management of the Tom Riche situation. This should have been handled in closed session. The attorney told you so and so have many, many residents who stepped up to the mike and who wrote to the papers. Apologize publicly for causing this mess and for all the harm you caused to Mr. Riche.

    3. follow the advice of our Village Attorney, who has the best interest of Ridgewood in mind at all times. Granted, he gives advice, not orders, but his advice is legal advice and you are not a lawyer. All your actions and decisions should be in the best interest of the Village of Ridgewood, and your own personal popularity or public opinion should not ever enter into your decisions.

    4. admit that, in desperation to stop the flood of negativity toward you about the Extel situation, you asked a village resident to withdraw a letter to the Ridgewood News. You were seen talking to her and people nearby heard your plea to her that evening. Further, for once and for all answer the question that has been posed to you by numerous people: Did you, or did you not, have any contact with anyone at the Ridgewood news in an attempt to get that letter pulled? You have been asked the question, but you never answer it. People forgave President Clinton for a major wrongdoing; why the heck can’t you admit that you messed up on this by attempting to control the press?

You use the word TRANSPARENCY all the time when trying to characterize your leadership of our Village. This is a noble goal and I am sure that everyone supports it. Your behavior, however, seems to be clouded by a smokescreen. The good things you have accomplished are being diminished by your behavior.

  3. Keith – please come back…..

    1. I second that emotion.

    2. Forget this past episode Mayor Keith that was not very productive.

  4. keith was neither deceptive nor devious. I wish he were back. 6 votes……….sigh………

  5. Mayor Paul hasn’t finished padding his resume.

  6. Padding his resume???? What is he padding it with? Multiple missteps?

  7. Mr. Mayor, please leave town. You have not lived here long enough to have a clue about it and you have no right to destroy it and move on.

  8. In short: our mayor is a small-minded man, with neither the temperament nor the intellect to handle his job

  9. Small minded with a big temper
