Readers says Planning Board Attorney more inclined to support Valley expansion

Gail Price, the PB attorney, is representing Stop & Shop in Wyckoff in a lawsuit to prevent a neighboring Shop Rite from opening. In the suit, Stop & Shop’s attorney, Gail L. Price, states the proposed free-standing supermarket does not conform to the current zoning and would cause or exacerbate traffic and drainage problems in the area.

Is that not the same argument that opponents to the Valley expansion are using? Unfortunately, I think her interests lie with supporting private entities like Valley and Stop & Shop and she is biased towards them. She seems to be more inclined to support the expansion in this case because as we can see, she makes most of her money from supporting private entities, not as the PB attorney.

  1. What a bunch of crap. How do you pretend to know whether someone will support or oppose something? A lawyer is PAID by a CLIENT to be their mouthpiece. It does not make that lawyer a ‘beleiver’. They are simply doing their job. Does every criminal defense attorney advocate breaking the law?
You anti valley people will stoop to new lows every day.

  2. hummm , people respond with anger when they get found out , that comment proves the point of the post

  3. There seems to be more control over coflict of intrest with regard to criminal defense. It would be much more difficult for a prosecuter to work as a defense attoney. The idea of working both sides of the fence isn’t so frowned upon in civil law.

  4. Let’s just hope she is fair and objective, just like we hope the rest of the Planning Board is. If she is, and they are, the proposal will be seen for what it really is…over the top.

  5. #3. prosecuters usually become criminal defense attorneys when they are done working for the govt. As far as working ‘both sides of the fence’in civil cases, the attorney works for either the plaintiff or defendant.
Just because an attorney represents Stop and shop why would you not expect them to represent another entity? An attorney is a hired gun to represent the interest of their client, whatever that may be.
#2 is apparently clueless as to how attorneys operate.

  6. Prosector become criminal defense attormeys because of the increase fees as opposed to working for a govt. salary. The idea of attorneys being hired guns is very accurate (in my opinion) but that is what makes people question their loyalty. today you work for 1 client then another where ever the fee is even if this acceptable in the profession it make for a sullied image.

  7. #1 Have you been to any of the meetings? Ms. Price has been biased from the start. To the uninitiated she comes off more like a Valley attorney than one paid to be objective and to represent the best interests of Ridgewood. I’m sure she’ll look great at the next Valley black tie fundraiser though.
