The American Red Cross North Jersey Region has announced it will be placing its Ridgewood location at 74 Godwin Avenue on the market in the upcoming weeks. The move comes as part of the organization’s 2017 planning strategy is the utilization optimization of Red Cross facilities.

Currently, the Red Cross North Jersey Region operates out of 13 facilities, some of which are under-utilized and others that are in need of significant repair. The North Jersey Region is in the process of reviewing its real estate footprint taking into account its service delivery, volunteer operations, training locations and storage needs.

The vast majority of Red Cross program and services in Ridgewood and across the region are performed out in the community and not at the organization’s brick and mortar locations, the organization wrote in a statement. The Red Cross remains committed to ensuring residents in all of our communities, including Ridgewood, continue to receive Red Cross services.

  1. Hey Big Al the Developers Friend did you know about this? w=What plans do you have for this building? Maybe another apartment building or assisted living. How about a performing arts center? Spend spend what the hell its not your money just bond it.

  2. Hopefully Whole Foods will buy the space. They have the most poorly configured parking lot ever

  3. Possibilities:

    1. Whole Foods buys and expands.
    2. Converted to apartments.
    3. Converted to professional offices (e.g. medical, realtors, lawyers, etc.).

    My money’s on #3.

  4. I agree with Declan. #3 is theronly way.

  5. Compromise?: Whole Food buys the back of the parking lot to expand its own, but the rest is left to the new office building.

NO MORE NEW CONSTRUCTION ON GODWIN–please.

  6. Mr. P. will build a hacienda on the site for himself and new wife.

  7. It was sad when the historic building burned down and they built this thing in its place.

Dopey kid getting even with ex-girlfriend, who worked there. She was well rid of that one!

How did they find him? Before torching the place he stole a bicycle from it. When he returned to watch the fire, an employee recognized the bike.

He made it easy for the detectives.

Maybe in the interim he went to jail, saw the light, wrote a book that will be made into a movie, became a celebrity, made a fortune, and will buy the building, turning it into a home for confused youth.

Or he’s out there somewhere getting high.

  8. Assessed in 2015 for $3,261,600 . Currently, no taxes are collected for this lot. Would be great rateable to have the property remain as an building rather than parking lot.

  9. The news hits close to home. My wife Cynthia was Chairman of the Chapter when the old chapter house was restored, and a lot of time and effort went into putting together a wonderful collection of photographs, prints, and paintings. The pride and joy of the collection was a c. 1917 painting of a Red Cross fair at the Ridgewood train station. We were in San Francisco the day the old Chapter House was destroyed, a day I will remember as long as I live. My wife being English did not dwell long on the bad news and led the campaign to rebuild the Chapter House. The most touching moment was the July 4th Parade when Ridgewood’s Finest and Bravest, the Fire Deparyment, who fought so bravely to stop the fire, stopped at the site of the building, turned towards it and saluted. I don’t think there was a dry eye around. Old Ridgewood at its best.

  10. What a foolish post. Let’s see some proper use of the property, Village Council.

  11. where am I going to go to dump last years clothes?

  12. @ 6:37

The vets will pick up from your doorstep.

  13. Thanks, 3:06pm. Would be great to see. Good location, ample parking. Close to train and downtown restaurants, so perhaps appealing for a business office. Depending on it’s use, could lease the rear lot to Whole Foods with an accessible ramp and simple cross-walk.

Hope that Valley doesn’t have their eyes on it already. Given their non-profit tax status, this would be easy pickings for them.

  14. It would be nice to have a ratable property there, the town has enough non profit stuff already.

  15. Excellent site to plop in another 100 apartment units so we can continue the beautification of ridgewood being conducted by our Village leaders!!
