Washington DC, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) has introduced a bold constitutional amendment aiming to allow President Donald Trump to serve a third term in the White House, emphasizing the need for “bold leadership” to address the nation’s challenges.
Details of the Proposed Amendment
The amendment, proposed on Thursday, states:
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
Currently, the 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two terms. If passed, this new amendment would create an exception, enabling Trump to seek a third term.
Ogles’ Statement on Leadership
Ogles justified the proposal by praising Trump’s leadership, saying:
“President Trump’s decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the chaos, suffering, and economic decline Americans have endured over the past four years. He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.”
Trump’s Response to the Idea
While Trump has joked about the idea of a third term in the past, he has also publicly dismissed the notion of pursuing it. Speaking to Time Magazine last year, Trump said:
“I wouldn’t be in favor of a challenge. Not for me. I wouldn’t be in favor of it at all. I intend to serve four years and do a great job. And I want to bring our country back. I want to put it back on the right track.”
Republicans’ Reaction
During a recent meeting with House GOP lawmakers, Trump made light-hearted remarks about a third term, saying:
“I suspect I won’t be running again, unless you do something. Unless you say, ‘He’s so good, we have to just figure it out.’”
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) clarified that the comments were made in jest, saying:
“That was a joke. It was clearly a joke. … The idea that Trump is trying to thwart the Constitution is nothing further from the truth.”
Trump’s Immediate Actions as President
Since his inauguration earlier this week, Trump has signed several executive orders focused on reversing Biden administration policies. These include actions on:
- Southern border security
- Energy independence initiatives
- Withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO)
Ogles commended these actions, stating:
“In just a few short days, President Trump has already taken action to undo the catastrophic policies of the Biden Administration and put the United States back on the path to strength and prosperity.”
What’s Next for the Amendment?
Constitutional amendments require approval by two-thirds of both houses of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of state legislatures, making it a challenging and lengthy process.
While the proposal may not gain immediate traction, it underscores the growing support within certain Republican circles for Trump’s continued influence in U.S. politics.
Ridiculous. Absolutely not. Two terms—- that’s it.
The American people were adamant about getting one old guy out of the White House and then replaced him with another old one. And why put the current old guy back into the presidency after his current term is up? Representative Ogles, what’s in it for you?
Uh, because Trump has been daily restoring your freedoms through his generous use of executive orders and his successor could just as easily nullify Trump’s EOs with his/her/their own and add even more on top of that!
Face it, if Obama gets his fourth term we’re all cooked. This is obviously a hedge against the possibility that Trump doesn’t have a worthy successor lined up, which is something we need to think about having in place RIGHT NOW.
Nothing new here.
The Dems try this all the time (sometimes multiple times) when one of their denizens is in office.
If there’s an emergency, the presidency can be extended, declaration of war, that’s the law like it or not.
The Dems had no problem with allowing Mike Bloomberg to do it
He wasn’t President.
Why (other than the obvious) word it that way? You can have a third term if your first two weren’t consecutive (only happened twice in history), but not if they were? If the intent is pure here, that wouldn’t be a condition, it would let anyone have 3 terms. Stop with this silly political manipulation.
As much as I’d love to see it, Dems and the mainstream media (same thing) would claim that this is what they predicted in the form of Dictator for Life.
Not gonnna happen in our lifetimes. If you remember, the dems tried to make Washington DC a state to get an edge on house and senate votes and tried to push for more than 9 supreme court justices not so long ago. Could you imagine if the supreme court was packed with a bunch of liberals who hate us? We would be toast. That was pushing it back then and they were serious about it. So, whatever you hear about a third term is nonsense. Trump is the most fit to lead our country. His age does not matter. He is blessed by the holy spirit. Not Sleepyjoe Biden Kacklela Harris. They old news now. When they meet thier creature, they are going to have alot of xplaining to do .
Trump is anything but godly. He’s just like the rest of them on both sides of the aisle. God may allow him to be in office but that doesn’t mean he’s a Christian. His actions and rhetoric speak otherwise. Would Jesus Christ speak and act like him? No.
not really sure you can speak for Jesus
