Rep. Garrett Statement on Supporting the SKILLS Act keeping the Focus on jobs
Mar 15, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ) today issued the following statement after voting in favor of the SKILLS Act, H.R. 803:

“The American people work hard for their money and it’s not fair that Washington waste even a penny of it. The efficient and effective use of the American people’s tax dollars are among the most fundamental duties we have as their Representatives in Washington. Today, I joined my colleagues in the House to ensure that money spent on job training programs is spent wisely and on programs that work.”

Prior to passage, the House adopted the Garrett Amendment to the SKILLS Act. Rep. Garrett’s amendment would simply require that if reports evaluating programs under the SKILLS Act are not transmitted to Congress by the deadlines, the program’s authorization level would be cut by 10 percent as well as an additional 10 percent for each subsequent fiscal year until the report is received.
