Ridgewood NJ, for years the Village has looked for ways to get more traffic off West Ridgewood Ave and onto school property in a more timely fashion.

Village and School officials got together and issued the Ridge School Traffic report , in an attempt to come to grips of a long time issue of school pickup traffic blocking West Ridgewood Avenue .

Some new ordinances were proposed , a “Dont block the box between Murry and West Ridgewood ” , in addition the Village will enact title 39 on all school properties which will allow police to issue tickets for improper parking.

Also there will be a single cue going in and then it will divided by grade . A new crossing guard will also be added .

In testimony Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser called it an “evolving process ”

  1. In true Ridge tradition, every time they examine this problem, the “solution” results in one or more of the following:
    – reduced parking spaces (more are needed not less)
    – additional costs and/or restrictions/ordinances imposed on the parents
    – a net negative impact on the surrounding neighbors
    – new or increased penalties/fines
    Which always result in
    – a worsening of the situation

  2. 12:41 nailed it. Stand down govt give it a needed rest. Just stop the texting even at stop signs it might get safer folks your LOL AND Likes can wait while Peds and kids cross the street

  3. Nobody has a problem waiting for the crossing guard to give the high sign. The problem for people trying to pass by is that the row of cars stretching almost all the way back to Monroe St. has made it nearly impossible to drive west on that long stretch of road (especially as it gets narrower closer to the school) without going at least partly into the oncoming traffic lane. The problems for neighbors are obvious and include endless clouds of exhaust from larger and larger vans and SUVs.

  4. Walk you lazy people!!!
All the schools. I see moms driving a BLOCK!! Stop being so entitled and lazy get off your butts and walk.
You won’t die and neither will your special snowflakes.

  5. Ridge school has an automotive problem. Too many parents driving to school. And the “me-first” entitlement that goes with it. Relax people, it is just school dropoff

  6. 1. The neighbors also drive massive SUV’s
    2. The neighbors knew they were buying a house next to or near a school
    3. The neighbors children either attend or attended Ridge school
    4. The inconvenience lasts for about ten minutes on school days only (180 of 365)
    5. The Ridge district extends all the way to Maple ave and includes special needs children from all over Ridgewood, not everyone lives within walking distance.

    6. Neighbors – Get over it!

  7. Double parking is illegal. Period. Stopping on W Ridgewood Ave in the travel lane, even for 10 minutes, is illegal. Period. We dont need traffic studies and meeting. We do not need new laws – there are already existing traffic laws that prevent this. We just need ickets issued for illegal motor vehicle operation for anyone stopped in the travel lane. That would solve the problem quickly.

  8. What’s needed is an additional focus on making parents comfortable with allowing their children to walk to school alone, or walking to school with a parent.

  9. Sidewalks on clinton

  10. Listen 9:09 I am not a neighbor but work in town and have to drive thru there to get home. After navigating the stupid green bike lane why should I have to sit in “traffic” from Monroe till I’m past Ridge because everyone has to pick up their kid, blocking other cars just trying to drive past
