RIDGEWOOD — The Board of Education is once again exploring the pros and cons of offering a full-day kindergarten program in the district, but officials are concerned that coming up with the money to do so could be problematic.

Officials claim a full-day kindergarten program would require 10 additional teachers with an estimated cost of $1 million-plus.

Providing daylong kindergarten has been a longtime goal for Ridgewood’s educators, said Sheila Brogan, president of the village’s school board.

“We are one of the few districts that don’t have full-day kindergarten, and we realize it would be an enhancement,” Brogan said. “The question for us is: Is it feasible?”

The school board discussed the prospect of expanding its offerings during a meeting held late last month.

  1. Spend Sheila spend.

  2. No, it is not feasible and it is unnecessary. Our students are doing well without it (thank you, tutors!).

  3. It is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I paid for enrichment for my three. Not a problem, not a burden on the taxpayers.

Some did not do enrichment and their kids did fine too. It really does not change lives. The benefits of head start programs are gone by third grade. Full day kindergsrten will not affect how they do in later school.

  4. 4:11pm is right on the money, seems like some just want a baby service at taxpayer expense.

  5. Cost benefit analysis?

    Cost
Construction of classrooms at six elementary schools – paid with a 20 year bond?
Ten teachers plus benefits. – continue forever

    Benefit. ??
    No long lasting educational benefit
    Free child care for parents
    “everybody else has it” Waaaaaaaa

  6. Benefit: The state gets their hands on your kids earlier and for a longer period of time…
    Let the indoctrination accelerate….

  7. Thanks for the tip.
