Comments made during the Tuesday, June 4th joint BOE/Village of Ridgewood Fields Committee Meeting by Scott Muller, President of the Ridgewood Baseball & Softball Association (RBSA), and Ed Seavers, an Association Trustee, clearly revealed that the RBSA doesn’t give a damn about anything to do with the Schedler property, or its neighbors, other than placement of a 90-foot baseball diamond/field at the site.
Mr. Muller categorically stated that the only reason a dirt berm was placed along the Route 17 side of the Schedler property was to prevent construction of a 90 foot baseball diamond/field there. He further stated that in the event the berm had to be removed (because of alleged contaminated fill used during its construction process), he would cheer such an undertaking and propose the berm be replaced instead with a walled structure commonly found along Route 17 north and south of the Schedler property. The narrow wall would free up enough space on the property to permit a 90-foot baseball diamond/field to be built, said Mr. Muller.
Mr. Seavers stuck his foot in his mouth in response to comments made by Ridgewood Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Schwarz concerning the availability of space at the Glen School. Dr. Schwarz reported that construction of a new field on the East Glen Ave. side of the school building looks doable. Mr. Seavers reminded those present at the meeting that “neighbors” had in the past objected to the construction of an athletic field in the front of the school building. Huh? Mr. Seavers is concerned about what the neighbors who live near Glen have to say (Mayor Paul Vagianos lives within 500 feet of the Glen property) but doesn’t seem to give a damn about what anyone who lives along West Saddle River Rd. thinks about athletic field construction at Schedler? Double standard Mr. Seavers?
The insanity associated with Schedler continues.

Fast Eddie has been the field czar in Ridgewood for close to 35 years. He runs a very lucrative soccer assigning business on the side. So profitable that he gave up practicing law.
So that’s why we never hear about 60×90 field any more. Question is what organization wanted the berm placed there…must have been the soccer bunnies.
“He runs a very lucrative soccer assigning business on the side. So profitable that he gave up practicing law. ”
So he was a really shitty lawyer?
What a bunch of scumbags those sports fanatics are
The sports groups pull a lot of weight, when they call believe me the village runs. That’s because it’s all about money. Political power these groups have been a pain in the ass for a long time. That’s because some of these parents think they’re little Johnny is gonna be the next super star ,Mean While they are lucky that they could be Water boy.
These sports people are crazed, absolutely off the rails
Entitled sports dads and moms are ruining this town. Literally ready to chop down hundreds of trees so their beloved littles csn get their games on their way to D1 glory
Yeah. but unfortunately for the ones that don’t make the D1, a lot of those kids buckle under the pressure and eat a sewer slider.
Both should resign and let the younger parents who actually have kids in the program take over.
Post of the day.
The Berm was probably purposefully contaminated so it can be removed and a 90 foot diamond can be placed there.
But when its built….no one will want to drive across town at 5:30pm. Home games will be further than away games
But an easy drive for the soccer teams in Wash Twp and Westweird !
I repeat. Why is there no consideration of placing the entrance and exits for the parking lot and drop off area for players on West Saddle River Road so close to the exit to Rt 17N? Are the “Powers that be” just waiting for the first terrible accident—or maybe the fifth–before they get concerned? Cars fly off of Rt 17N and would be unable to stop before broad-siding cars coming in or out of the shown parking. And all of them must know that parents often don’t want to pull into parking and will let their children out on the side of the road. West Saddle River road is so narrow that it can’t be legally striped. A car cannot pass a parked car without waiting for the traffic to clear coming from the other way. You know that impatient people will try to pass without making sure no-one is coming off of 17. Another accident waiting to happen! And lastly, how many children need to be hit after being dropped off on the opposite side of WSRR? I know one of the answers was to buy Ms. Green’s property for another fortune. And lastly, at least some of you have heard about the problems Glen Rock has been having with its basketball court–built with Green Acres money, as is Schedler. They had a large group of Paterson boys having a tournament on the court. It ended up with a shooting while a Glen Rock baseball team was on a nearby field. Anything built with Green Acres money is automatically open for public consumption. Being just off Rt 17 is an open invitation. Have the “Powers that be” considered that problem? Maybe they should talk to Glen Rock?
Village Engineer Phone: 201-670-5500 Ext. 2239 · Christopher Rutishauser he is responsible for this design, the lay out, the lack of storm drains, the coordination with the safety and police teams regarding the entrance and exits, the cutting down of trees, the coordination of soil movement, submitting designs to SHPO with Gazebos He has been the one constant resource since the ZS applications started and why it is taking 10 years. One of the residents recently spoke about safety concerns and that police and fire would be looking into that neighborhood traffic and any concerns were going to be addressed. If not, the safety advisory board should be contacted by residents in order to adequately address all concerns. I don’t get the feeling the village manager would want to change the proposed plans for on site parking as it will take away from field size which seems to be the only thing this crew cares about and safety comes last.
When he is not on Facebook answering to the minions, he is busy calling balls and strikes.
What is wrong with this group of individuals, the sports organizations and the politicians that seem to be catering to their wims. I have kids in organized sports and Ridgewood does not need a new field. Just drive around town and see for yourself. It is the biggest joke and I am losing interest in wanting to associate or wanting my children to associate with people who are willing to go to the lengths that this group is.
Whatever happened to the days when the sport of baseball was played for fun and pure enjoyment as well as to teach kids some valuable life lessons along the way. It is evident that there is some very cringe worthy behavior coming from a group within our community that should be regarded as role models for good behavior, but they themselves seem to be mastermining and undermining.
Ridgewood does not have the kind of money to throw around for this nonsense.
REMINDER – The median household income in Ridgewood, New Jersey is $211,224 as of 2022. This is more than double the national median household income of around $69,000 and 181% higher than the New Jersey median of $135,170. Ridgewood is considered one of the wealthiest towns in the United States and the 13th highest-income city with a population of at least 25,000. Residents don’t care about tax increases, this is why only the same 10 people show up to VC meetings, everyone else is at their second home on the beach.
Well, to your point, other upscale towns at least seem to have their acts together a bit more than RW a once gorgeous respectable place. Many now feel it is being run amuck, high levels of PFAS in the water not out for 2 more years, flooding that hasn’t been addressed for years, a train stairwell that smells like urine, designer garbage cans that are useless with garbage piled on top, plenty of fields that are not being properly maintained and parents constantly complaining, and issues that don’t get put on the agenda unless you are kicking and screaming like sidewalks, footbridge among others. Sure we have money for a businessman mayor’s wish list for friends and family. We need an open kimono not an open checkbook. Rich and stupid doesn’t work anymore.
Instead of the real housewifes of NJ, we should have a reality tv show about the inner workings of the various sports machines in these high per capita income towns, I can think of a few and we can start here in Ridgewood. Scenes can include choosing new uniforms, them on the phone with the movers and shakers, politicians, yelling at the kids (kind of like dance moms) and wheeling and dealing with municipal money when talking to turf vendors and how hard it is to book a field. This could be fun and I might pull up a chair, grab an adult beverage and a snack for this series . Anyone have Andy Cohen’s phone number.
I vote for the Glen School development. It is just perfect. It has been talked about for years but swept under the rug and now it is time to get those shovels into the ground. We can even get some free dirt from the Schedler property or the village engineer and his sidekick can surely find out where to get some nice infill.
All our village care about these days are sports. Very disheartening. Our town is not made up of kids only. Village should be focusing on more important matters. So sick of hearing about the kids only. What about the overall residents? Enough already
