Ridgewood NJ, we were quite surprised on Monday night when Michelle Fenwick, Director of Special Programs for the Ridgewood Public Schools, lost her cool while participating via an audio Zoom connection in a public meeting of the Board of Education. The discussion topic that triggered Dr. Fenwick’s fit was the proposed expansion of leased space at a building on Oak Street used by STEPSS (School Transition and Employment Program for Student Success) students.

Members of the Board expressed their respective concerns about the absence of windows in the leased space, and given those conditions, whether extending the present lease beyond its current expiration date was a wise idea. Dr. Fenwick seemingly took issue with this discussion, and abruptly terminated her Zoom connection after saying “I am leaving this meeting, respectfully I can’t . . . “

Hmm. The last time we looked, Dr. Fenwick’s name is not on the sign in front of the Ed Center. Did she not know the meeting she so abruptly left was being recorded? Yet another Ridgewood Public Schools administrator who can’t seem to grasp the fact that Board of Education members have the final say.

  2. What a moron. She should just submit her resignation and start her own business if she can’t deal with constructive feedback.

Without the background information you are only seeing a slice of this topic.
But yes, I agree only a matter of time before another administrator is driven out by this board.

    1. Good riddance to bad rubbish. All those who you claim to have been “driven out”were in actuality a bunch of arrogant, disrespectful, know it all, primo Donnas who needed to be gone.

    2. What do you think the boards role is? Agree to EVERYTHING the administrators present to them?
Why do we elect the board?

    3. Time to check the councils water Supply .

    4. agreed. She just was recognized as the best Special Education Director IN THE STATE, yet two board members don’t trust her. They are a menace

  5. Context context context. Mike Lembo asked her if she would like to clarify/answer questions. Mammoud asked her a clear question. Kwak jumped right in and spoke right over her.

With respect the the person who said the board has final say, did lembo not allow her to answer questions and then another trustee ask a question of her?

    1. True. Kwak is a BULLY

      1. Kwak and Dani both are bully. Lembo is busy taking favors, he has had two relatives appointed since he became president! Does he even live in Ridgewood?
Sheila and Mohammed are the only sane trustees.

          1. Correct. Kwak and Dani are totally above board. They are THE BEST

  6. Recommending a place with windows is not unreasonable.

Many countries in Europe require that employers have a view to the outside wherever their employees are seated.

  7. The problem with Ridgewood School District is that administrators want to be promoted every time a vacancy becomes available, and they frawn upon if an external person is hired as their supervisor. They also don’t respond well, if anyone from public or the board asks them a question on their decision.
They want a rubber stamp superintendent and rubber stamp board.
If they can’t take questions, then there is no loss if they move on.

  8. How many new staff members has she hired since she came on board and how has that helped the students?

  9. Hmm

    “I Can’t”
    “ I Understand”

  10. Any lease and esp ANY school with no windows sounds like a bad lease. They would be lucky to get OUT of that lease… unless there’s something the general public doesn’t know about it. Something that could very specifically (or even possibly) justify using a windowless room for a school. Or maybe they just lease it for storage or something.
It seems like a real loss to the public that the person who disconnected didn’t give any details or justification for her choice.

    1. Look at the real issue here. The same meeting the board unanimously approved another program in a basement, its the landlord that Kwak and Dani don’t like because he didn’t like their friend Knudsen. Its all a game with your tax dollars!!

  11. The Administrator that suggested calling Fenwick is to blame. Fenwick clearly had no idea what the conversation was about and falsely concluded that she might need to setup a whole new operation in 3 months which was not on the table. The Board was entirely reasonable to say not to sign a long-term extension if better space might exist when that lease expires in a few years. It is also very odd that Fenwick is the one negotiating lease terms. Shouldn’t counsel handle lease negotiations?

  12. Sounds like she could use an HR leave to work out personal issues. Maybe she really can’t.
