Ridgewood Deputy Mayor Pamela Perron publicly questions the “legality” of The Ridgewood Blog

Ridgewood NJ, yep. You read the headline correctly. Our “legality” has come into question by Deputy Mayor Pamela Perron, a current member of the Ridgewood Village Council. And to make Ms. Perron’s “legality” comment even more ludicrous, she’s a law school graduate and was a practicing attorney.

The Deputy Mayor’s comments were made during Wednesday evening’s debate between the four candidates for Village Council. Ms. Perron was responding to a question about cyber bullying when she put her foot in her mouth.

For the benefit of readers, here’s what protects The Ridgewood Blog from attempts at censorship hinted by idiots like Ms. Perron:

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution protects the following five freedoms:

  • Freedom of religion: Congress cannot make laws that establish a religion or prohibit the free practice of religion
  • Freedom of speech: Congress cannot make laws that abridge freedom of speech
  • Freedom of the press: Congress cannot make laws that abridge freedom of the press
  • Freedom of assembly: The people have the right to peacefully assemble
  • Freedom of petition: The people have the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances

The First Amendment is one of the most famous amendments to the Constitution, and is often referred to as the Bill of Rights.

The First Amendment protects a broad range of speech, as long as it doesn’t incite “immediate lawless action”. However, some categories of speech are not protected, including obscenity, child pornography, defamatory speech, false advertising, true threats, and fighting words.

So, what did The Ridgewood Blog recently post that could have resulted in Ms. Perron’s shorts winding up in a knot? Anyone want to hazard a guess?

    1. More than one our mayor tries to shut us up

  4. free speech is the corner stone of democracy

    11
    1. Uh, no. The cornerstone of democracy is the will of the majority, and the majority can easily vote away any speech it doesn’t like.

      1. Hard to believe a fellow citizen has such little understanding of the Constitution. Stunningly ignorant.

        1. How do you feel about Barack Obama? Because remember that Barack Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago. Should we take your opinion about the Constitution seriously over a Constitutional law professor? Because I bet Barack Obama has some very different ideas about what the Constitution means. And yet, he was a professor, and a president of the United States. And you?

This is all to inform you that the Constitution is not sacrosanct. It is, in fact, a moldy old piece of paper (and didn’t GWB famously say that too?) and nothing more. I can make it mean whatever I want it to mean, which is what you see going on around you all time; well, not you, specifically, since you’re choosing to worship a moldy old idol instead of deal with reality.

          1. lol, the great leader

            1. great divider

      2. Not true. We are a constitutional republic and are all PROTECTED by the CONSTITUTION. Read, comprehend, and educate yourself. This is important stuff!

        1. You can’t simultaneously be a democracy AND a constitutional republic, idiot. So which one do you have? The OP says free speech in the cornerstone of democracy, which it absolutely is not; a democracy, per se, does not guaranty free speech. So take it up with the OP.

You say the country was founded as a constitutional republic, which it was. At its founding, it was a lot of things it no longer is. At its founding, e.g. there was no question as to the correct interpretation of the Second Amendment. My how things have changed. All kinds of things once thought inalienable and Constitutional are now routinely questioned, if not considered archaic and consistently being papered over with laws being authored by supranational interests.

After the Constitutional Convention, what did Ben Franklin famously say about your supposed form of government? “A republic, if you can keep it.” Oh, do you really think you’ve kept it? The world has changed a lot since you shut your brain off after junior high school civics class. Obviously.

          1. only in Ridgewood silly cuc boys appose free speech

            1. only on the Blog do grown-ass adults say things like “cuc”

              You’re an embarrassment.

              1. tell mommy i said hi

                1. Also something a grown-ass adult would say.

          2. Hey North Korea might be a great place for you to move. No pesky constitution or free speech to get in the way of government.
Obviously you never turned your brain on in life. But hey here we have free speech, so you are completely entitled to your wrong opinion.
Have a marvelous day, and don’t forget to Make America Great Again.
            P.S. Obummer sucks.

  5. One I can say is thank God for the Blog. When you go back before the block, when the village at one time they held a lot of power with local news the record, the Ridgewood news, the suburban news, the women’s club, the real estate group, the Board of Education, The mayor and Council, the village management, cannot stand the Ridgewood blog because they cannot control that news channel. Most of us say to damn bad you don’t like it. Well don’t get involved with local government. If it wasn’t for some of us getting information to the blog many illegal activities that are conducted in the village will be swept under the carpet in village hall. Thank God for the Staff at the Ridgewood blog.

  6. Pantsuit Pammy just confirmed for us that she went to the same law school as Kackles.

    1. Looks like another case of the Dunning Kruger effect which is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a particular domain overestimate their abilities.

  7. Maybe share the full quote along with its context so we can make a more informed assessment?

  13. Catholic moral doctrine forbids detraction, which is the needlessly hurtful and reputationally damaging publication by spoken word or other forms of expression (such as by the written or printed word) of the truth. One can typically claim truth as a defense to a charge, for example, of libel and slander, constituting calumny. However, this does not serve to protect you in the Catholic confessional against self-accusation when it comes to the mortal sin of detraction.

Presuming there is good justification, though, for the truth to be revealed, for example in terms of providing a sound basis for deciding for whom to vote into public office, or for allowing like-minded individuals calmly and charitably to associate to advance a particular political agenda, the same need not necessarily remain hidden, or, so-to-speak, buried.

  14. She is a useless ass clown.

  15. Is she trying to scare people from commenting

    1. Who cares what Pam is trying to do or does. No one would listen to her anyway. She is very lackluster. May be smart but is not a good elected official and the cowtowing to Vagianos is just plain pathetic.

  16. Paul is funding her and Frank Mortimer’s campaign. All the video editing and campaign management costs by Jason’s firm for all three are being billed to Paul’s campaign account, as Paul has collected the most money.
None of them have reported these expenses in their elec reports!

  19. I love that the moderator kept mispronouncing Kwak’s last name

  20. the League did s decent job for a change

  21. Pam missed law school on the day they covered The First Amendment. 😬

  22. Pam often speaks with no point in sight.

  23. Just because she was a lawyer doesn’t mean she was a good one. Just ask Paul.

  26. Paul-lie puppet!

  27. Same as AOC and the other Marxist Democrats who want to censor news sites that publish false stories. Meanwhile, the majority of the false stories are coming fron the Democrats. Just like the fact checking at the debates. They never seem to fact check the crap that comes from Biden, Harris, or Walz.
