the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, As it gets closer to the 4th, and things are getting slowly back to normal, we know many people are disappointed by the cancelling of the annual 4th of July events. It was a very tough decision for our committee but with public health concerns and economic uncertainty, it was just not feasible this year. As many of you know, the 4th of July in Ridgewood is entirely funded by community donations, and with our local businesses deeply impacted by the shutdown, we felt cancelling this year’s events was the most responsible thing to do.
Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration will be holding the flag raising at 9 am at Wilsey Sq. It will also be live streamed through Facebook. Please celebrate the 4th in Ridgewood and share your photos with us through social media! Enjoy the committee’s annual donation of the American flags lining Ridgewood Avenue. We will be back next year and better than ever. Don’t forget to donate or volunteer to “Support the Tradition!”

Flag Raising
Wilsey Square – 9AM
The annual flag raising in Wilsey Square starts The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration off in true patriotic style. The event includes a short program based on the theme of each year’s parade and a traditional flag raising. Throughout the history of the celebration the parade and firework portions have on occasion been forgone due to funding or security concerns however the flag raising has occurred without interruption since the start of the committee in 1910. This year join your fellow patriots in the longest continually celebrated tradition in the history of The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration. We look forward to seeing you there!

If I could only see the flag raising without being forced to listen to the dopey politicians.
Good.
At least they are doing something.
They should also hold a modified parade.
Will masks be required?
A modified parade, And who would you like marching in this modified parade. We have a new idea with some people may be pissed off.
WEAR A FACE COVER OF SOME SORT!
No stupid chairs on the curbs. Good news.
“No stupid chairs on the curbs. Good news. ”
Obviously not a Ridgewood resident. Out of towners that come to our parade are so jealous of our tradition. Stay home if you’re inconvenienced. Can’t wait until 2021!

.
You know, a prade that is modified from its standard format…
.
maybe everyone “marching” is in vehicles with banners, etc (a la drive by parties).
maybe marchers maintain their distance
maybe at a given time everyone in the village beeps their horn to celebrate
maybe the parade route is lengthened and spectators must be spread out further…
maybe people who are comfortable with the rules participate
maybe…
maybe…
maybe…
.
…maybe you use your imagination rather than give up and quit.
.
I just came up with a handful of ideas without even trying and I’m sure there are others more creative than me.
.
Will Mayor Walsh be leading this?
Sounds great do it next year.
Yeah you might control the parade but how would you control the crowds watching it? Canceling made perfect sense. I totally support this
“They should also hold a modified parade.” 25 Fire Trucks instead of 500.
control the crowd???
how about some personal responsibility ….
are you an infant or an adult?
Same old shit .
Do it In Midlandpark .
