Ridgewood NJ, in the last 14 years of running the Ridgewood blog every time someone claims higher taxes are needed for something they are always the first people out the door when the last child graduates .Ridgewood has sadly become a transient town .

“The arts at RHS are fantastic and it would be nice for the students to have quality facilities. And this is why many people move to Ridgewood – for the schools and what they offer our kids. If you don’t want to help improve the school experience, then you’re free to move to Hawthorne like everyone else who is tired of Ridgewood expenses.”

  1. It’s sad that the temporary residents want to spend others money , then bail out back to NYC when the last of their offspring graduates RHS leaving th rest of us stuck with the tab
We used to have many long time families, who you can thank for making this the nice town that it is. Raising taxes just chases the empty nesters out of town.
The home will be sold to a family with children who will utilize the schools , and with increased enrollment it may require new school additions and more teachers.
We have always had a transient base here but accelerated trends will happen if you chase the empty nesters (who subsidize the families utilizing the schools) and your taxes will rise exponentialy.
And a note…NYC residential real estate taxes are considerably less than NJ. My dads friend with a 2 million dollar brownstone in Brookyln pays a lot less than my dads 700k home in the village. So when th temporary residents move back to NYC they actually pay lower real estate taxes

  2. I would think that someone moving into town with no kids or 1 kid will probably stay for 18-25 years. Is that really transient?

  3. This town was done about 20 – 25 years ago.
    .
Momentum is the only thing keeping it going and now it is finally starting to show…
    .

  4. Get over it. Ridgewood has been a transient town for years.
